Have you ever taken a "runcation?" Vacation destination for a race?

Thinking about going someplace new, for a nice little vacation and also a little running torture

Any suggestions for a particularly fun or scenic race worth traveling for? Within the continental US?

What distance? Destination Races does great half marathons in Napa and in Santa Barbara.
Mardi Gras marathon this winter in New Orleans. Disney marathon, although it's already sold out for 2016. For a shorter but famous race, the Cooper River Bridge Run in Charleston in April.
Pretty much anywhere in the country you can find a race and use it as a reason for a trip.

Agree there are lots of them. For scenic I think the Big Sur marathon is pretty good.

I've done the Mardi Gras Marathon - tons of fun. Nashville rock and roll half marathon - meh, Phoenix half marathon - not scenic at all but I have friends/family there. Richmond half - liked this one. Delaware half - no.

Thank you for the replies! Any great ones that are at a half-marathon or less? I'm afraid a full is too much for me :-\

All the time. I am on one right now (Disney Wine and Dine)

The Bryce Canyon half marathon is on my bucket list because it is downhill! And I love Bryce Canyon National Park.

Rock and Roll has a half and they have some fun destinations. You can run down the Las Vegas Strip.

I would love to do the half marathon in Key West. It's sometime in February, I think.

Has anyone done Disney? Is it good?

I did the princess half last year. Great, except for getting up at 3:30 to take the bus from the hotel to the start. Also, submit a 10k time. I didn't so started in the back. Had to dodge slow walkers for the first 8 miles and killed my knees. Other than that, it was a ton of fun. The characters along the way and lots of people running in costumes helped it go fast!
