FIFA predicted the New York area would take in $3 billion from the World Cup. But some official estimates say the city could lose money on the world’s biggest sporting event.

Who wants to come to the US now?

And most US citizens, except for the wealthy, are not going to be able to afford NYC, or to attend FIFA anyhow. I know people who are selling plasma to pay for gas.

+1 I have family in Europe that had been planning to come for years. Canceled. Thanks, POTUS

Yes that does tend to happen when your country’s leader threatens its neighbor’s sovereignty and says he will make them the 51st state.

The Trump admin destruction seeps into all sectors of the economy.

‘I wouldn’t pay it’—President Trump slams World Cup ticket prices, US opening match goes unsold

Imagine if Obama had said what Trump said...Republicans would be braying that he's unpatriotic and denigrating his own country.

Imagine if Obama had multiple baby mamas, hung out with porn stars, accusations of rape, buddies with Jeffrey Epstein, theft, bankruptcies, grift…etc?

It's not just foreigners. Record number of Americans have left, and/or want to leave.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/record-number-americans-leaving-country-235811995.html

According to a February 2025 Harris poll, 68 percent of Americans considering leaving the U.S. cited unattainable home ownership and a sense they were “merely surviving instead of thriving.”

Meanwhile, 49 percent cited high living expenses and disagreements with the political situation in the U.S.

I would pay more to live somewhere else with universal healthcare and better food. When I asked my dh where he would like to retire, his answer was "not in the United States now "

several countries offer retiree visas. As long as you have x amount in retirement income you can get a visa.

I've looked at Spain for example.

NP. This is a great list. For me, I've been eyeing Costa Rica and Panama. I'm trying to figure out my best course, since DH died last year. I feel I need to leave. America is becoming a little too frightening for me, and I think I need to run. I know, TMI

Yep, we've seen a decline in foreign students coming to or staying another year at my DC's university (which draws a lot of international athletes).

I'd retire someplace else in a nanosecond if I could. I have to check out that list.

#alt NationalPark ServiceThe U.S. just had its worst year for international tourism since the pandemic and it wasn’t even close. While the rest of the world broke records in 2025, America was the only country out of 184 to see a drop in foreign visitor spending. Four million fewer tourists came here and eight billion dollars gone. We were the only major destination in the world moving in the wrong direction.

This didn’t happen by accident. Travel bans now cover nationals from nearly 40 countries. Germany issued a formal warning to its citizens that a U.S. visa doesn’t guarantee they’ll actually be allowed in after several Germans were detained at the border. Canadians, our single largest source of international visitors, cut their trips by 20%. The administration added a fingerprint registration requirement for anyone staying more than 30 days. Visa wait times have ballooned. Nearly half of international travelers surveyed said Trump’s policies made them less likely to visit.

Now Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin wants to pull customs officers from airports in cities that don’t cooperate with immigration enforcement. No customs officers means no international flights. The airports on the list include JFK, LAX, O’Hare, SFO, and Seattle. These aren’t small regional hubs. They handle the overwhelming majority of international travel into this country.

Whether it happens or not, the message it sends to the world is the same one that’s already cost us billions. The Trump administration keeps pushing a “you’re not welcome here” message. It’s not surprising Trump is ruining the tourism industry he ran multiple casinos into bankruptcy because he’s such a “good businessman.”
