looking for summer tutor for special needs toddler.....

Anonymous
Can anyone tell me where I might find a tutor for my almost 4 year old son who has developmental delays.
I would love to find someone (perhaps a student) to work with him a few hours per week though the summer.
I am not sure where to begin my search. If you know of anyone interested in this type of work please let me know!
Thanks so much!

what kind of tutoring is this? academic stuff, like numbers and letters or reading and arithmetic? or is this ot/st? there are excellent, professional special educators at ITS for families and children in kensington. they work with kids on letters, numbers etc.

OP here.....we live in Bethesda. Ideally, I would like someone who came to our house.
This would be for basics (letters, numbers, colors, shapes) He already goes to a private
speech therapist and while he could always use some extra PT or OT ....I am really
looking for someone to just work on the basics. I greatly appreciate your feedback!

Can anyone tell me more about ITS?

Thanks!

ITS is a group that's basically one-stop shopping for all your special need needs. there are two groups now, really. there's the ot/slp group (teri kozlowski and susan tieche et al as ots and anne reynolds et al as speech folks), and then there's the educational/psych group (educ consultants, psychologists, psychiatrists, and special educators). a friend's dc is seeing the special educator (jean something) and she has been impressed. it's a pretty good group, all in all. i don't know if they do home visits. i tend to doubt it.

It depends on whether you need someone formally trained in special needs, etc. You can easily find a lovely college student to work with your child by posting an ad in college student newspapers (GW Hatchet and University of Maryland Diamondback come to mind), and some of them might have experience working with special needs children, although they presumably wouldn't be trained. But maybe to teach basics that would be sufficient.

Kingsbury has a huge (and very good) tutoring department and I'm pretty sure that they go into homes...might be worth checking out....
