| What's with the "write in Bill Eullie" signs? |
| Euille lost the primary, so some are pushing to write his name in the upcoming city election. |
|
And Euille is like a 3-time incumbent and no one likes Alison Silberberg or thinks she's even competent.
Euille is OK. Just a little too chummy with developers. |
|
They both are terrible. And I am Democrat. But as a City resident what we really need is someone like Trump. The City is a mess and considering how close we are to DC we shouldn't be.
Super high property taxes are used to prop up poor people so the white liberals can feel good about themselves. Most have no idea how much free services are provided by the City vs. other local jurisdictions. Prime example - school after care. The City provides it at a lost of $400 per year. That's right - per year. And if you are FARMS, then of course it's super reduced or free. Same deal with summer camp. Summer camp fee was $100 for the entire summer. |
Vote with your feet. |
| Is it true that Euille's yard signs have his name in cursive? If so, an odd move that someone who is counting on voters spelling his name (approximately) correctly. |
| What's even funnier about the Alexandria elections coming up is that Mimi Goff (whose kids never stepped foot in a public school) is running for School Board. |
Not cursive but not block letters either. More like italics. |
At least she has kids. Some of the school board members do not . |
| What happened to Alexandria? |
| Why doesn't anyone like Alison silberberg? I've only heard good things about her. |
She is a joke and is running solely because her house backs to TC Williams (she doesn't want the stadium lights). She completely evades any questions about her own kids schooling. She and Van Goff are rich Alexandrians who don't give two shits about the City and a running for office solely to correct a singular, personal issue they have with the city. It is embarrassing. Silberberg is incompetent, hated by most of city council (so they will just fight her on everything). Not that anyone can actually figure out what she actually wants to do - she is very wishy washy. Euille isn't great, but he is a hell of a lot better the Silberberg. |
| PP here - most of the people running in Alexandria are jokes. I don't know why more competent people cannot run. The City needs revenue that doesn't come by crushing property owners with taxes and it needs to address the crushing cut through traffic faced in many neighborhoods by MD and Fairfax residents. On the one hand they want to raise property taxes on homeowners rather than developing more commercial property and other areas of revenue, on the other hand they are hurting property values and smaller neighborhoods by completely failing to address cut through traffic. |
She is, in effect, the candidate of the Old Town Civic Association. Opposed to the development that the City needs. Says nothing at Council meetings. In the debate about the Potomac Yard metro her only input was to call for "traditional architecture" in the buildings to be built there. The OTCA is led by old NIMBYs who flood the local papers with illogical letters and opinions. Generally they support the Republican candidates for Council, but insist that Dems show party loyalty by voting for Silberberg. Silberberg won the primary only because the pro development, pro transit votes were split between Euille and Kevin Donley. And because registered Republicans from Old Town voted in large numbers, and because (it being a primary and an offyear) blacks voted in small numbers. |
Alexandria property tax rates are low compared to the rest of NoVa. The tax rate is the same on all kinds property, it is not higher on residential. They do want more commercial development, but the regional office market is weak. They have gotten some federal agencies to relocate from Arlington. I am pretty sure the City has procedures for deciding on traffic calming, if that is what you want. |
