The FCPS AAP website states: “Students receiving advanced math will be instructed at the grade level above POS.”
https://www.fcps.edu/academics/grading-reporting/elementary-school/4th-grade-advanced-academic-program-aap That’s definitely not happening at my center school. Grade 4 is still using the 4th grade POS for math. Same as last year in 3rd grade AAP. Regardless of this inconsistency, I wish FCPS would publicly explain why they’ve slowed down the AAP math track under the 2023-2030 strategic plan. My interpretation is that they’re intentionally slowing down the elementary years so acceleration can happen later in middle school. The acceleration will likely be open to all students, not just those in AAP. I suppose this will increase the number of students taking Algebra 1 by 8th grade, instead of having AAP students defaulting to Algebra in 7th in smaller classrooms. |
They won't explain anything until someone makes enough noise that it's in the news. That's always how they work. This is why I was so shocked that no one cared last year when this happened in 3rd. I mean - no one cared. |
