Naviance is the last three years of applicants from the school plotted on the graphs. The GPAs are final grades and they are typically lower when applying as most TJ senior courses are post-AP or AP classes that are weighted a 4.5 or 5. |
Naviance doesn’t list majors, but it’s pretty reasonable to guess that the applicants in the upper GPA quartile on the scattergram are the engineering majors, including cs. Rest are arts & science majors. Also, the GPAs shown are from the end of TJ senior year. If you want to ballpark what their junior or sophomore GPAs were, just knock off about 0.1 per year. So a 4.48 on Naviance probably means something like a 4.38 at the end of junior year and around a 4.28 at the end of sophomore year. |
Usually not much change from junior year because for vast majority of students grades dip a bit in senior year, especially 2nd half when many are just trying to avoid getting a D or C. None of T20 with possible exception of Princeton would not worry about B's after admission. |
| Grades tend to rise senior year, when more classes are weighted. Also, those middle school HS math and language credits are not truly weighted much so the freshman year straight A’s isn’t going to be that much higher than 4.2-ish. Then maybe by junior year three years of A’s gets to 4.4 or 4.5. Then straight A’s for four years will seem much higher at the end of the senior year, maybe 4.6-ish… Naviance data/grades are senior grades not junior. |
Princeton rescinds or sends warning letters if there are some Bs second semester? |
Not likely, but student could be placed on academic watch for first semester. One B shouldn't matter, but a C can draw attention. What they dislike is grades dropping to Cs in senior year, especially if the prior years had mostly As. |
