Different normal values based on your race.
One is if not African American. Two is if African American. |

The eggier is derived from the creatinine level. Since AA tend to be more muscular, they produce more creatinine, so the creatinine levels will be higher.
GFR of 92 is very good. It is normal. (for comparison, people like me with one kidney run about 50) |

OP here. Thanks for the responses. I think I learned a valuable lesson tonight. Don't look up LabCorp results on your own BEFORE your doctor calls you and try to decipher them on your own.

Actually, I would look up to be prepared to discuss. Things slip through the cracks in a busy practice, and you have to double check and question results that seem out of line. This is an important element of self-advocacy in health matters. Normally, doctors seldom get excited about values a bit above or below the lab range. That doesn't mean, however, they don't sometimes just miss things. |

99% of life is the same. We do not need two kidneys. For me, the biggest issues are 1) no NSAIDS (e.g., ibuprofen), and no IV contrast on CT scans (unless on that day, creatinine is below 1.5) -- that is a big one since I need CT with contrast to verify that I remain cancer free. |

The closer to "normal" your results are, the less accurate they become.
The levels are higher in African American populations due to higher muscle mass. Levels are usually higher in men as well. |
