Name Change for General Parenting

Anonymous
Just a thought... but now that there is an older kid and teen forum, what do you think about changing General Parenting to "Infants and Toddlers?" Now that I've graduated to Older Children, I feel like my issues get less traffic and interest because General Parenting is the "main forum" and the others are offshoots. General Parenting could even be a section with "Infants and Toddlers", "Older Children", and "Teens and Tweens" as subsections.

I've thought about this and will continue to think about it. I'm not quite ready to make the change, though it is probably a good idea.

I LOVE the idea of an infant/toddler section!!!

Jeff, you've said that General Parenting is for (very) young children.

Many moons ago, as a new user, I was confused by this. Why not call it what it is?

There's a huge gap between infants and toddlers and (what I consider) older children. Maybe an intermediary "PreK-Elementary" board? But named more elegantly.

While I don't think there needs to be a pre-k subsection, the word "preschooler" should be added to "infants and toddlers." Otherwise you're in trouble, because it has been quite firmly established that on dcum, a 3yo is NOT a toddler. And the poor 4-year-olds..

OP here. As soon as I push submit, it hit me... You forgot the preschoolers! But yes, general parenting is really "infant through preschool" or "infant, toddlers, and preschool"

I think general parenting should be titled "infants, toddlers and preschoolers"

Older Kids is misleading. The title should just be "elementary aged kids"

I think the responses would be more on target if those two forums had new names.

I agree with this. I was confused until I read the descriptions beneath the titles, and I suspect many of us don't read those descriptions even though we should!

I agree that the names of the forums are misleading. General parenting should be just that - general - not babies / infants / preschoolers. And at 6, I still have a little kid, not an older kid, so I don't agree that fits. AS a parent of kids ranging from 6 down to newborn, I think there's a good reason to keep general parenting general, for those times when you want to ask a question that can really apply to any age group. Then for the specifics you could have the sub topics.

I think too many sub-topics, though, and you lose critical mass. I know it drives advertising and respect that's your income, but I think there are too many forums to navigate now.

That said, i was just about to post here and ask for another one. So I'll shut up now.

DCUM became so easy for me the day I gave up going from forum to forum and just started at Recent Topics.

+ another.

My mind says Older Kids would be about kids in middle school, not Kindergarteners. I think there is a Teens/Tweens forum, but to me, ages 15-16 is totally different than 11 and 12 years old.

Thanks for listening, Jeff.

I agree with many of the posters above - gen parting should be that - general parenting - it can be discussionbs of various parenting issues

but we need a separate infant-preschool forum.

i am technically in "older kids" but my 6 year old's issues are very dis-similar with what is in there!
