Pediatric Neurologist Recommendation

Anonymous
We are currently looking to switch to a new pediatric neurologist in the area. We live in MD but don't mind if the neurologist is in DC or VA. Ideally, we are looking for a doctor who can give us better guidance than what we are currently recieving from our current neurologist, in the area of seizure management.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Would you consider traveling to Baltimore? John Freeman at JHH has an excellent reputation.

Have you tried Dr. Phillip Pearl at Children"s?

I would personally be hesitant of JHU. They push the ketogenic diet to increase their research study numbers. In the case of my child, they pushed the diet even in the case of clear evidence that she should stop the diet. I did not work with Freeman but his team and I was appalled by treatment.

We love Kennedy-Krieger (JHU). Dr. Alec Hoon has been a lifesaver and I have run into many parents in the special needs community who similarly adore him.

I have never heard him or anyone else at KKI mention the ketogenic diet. (My daughter does not have seizures).

My DC sees Dr. Stephen Mott at Georgetown Univ. Hospital for seizure management. We are very pleased. They have an excellent pediatric neurology department. He will spend a lot of time with you explaining his methods and reasoning, and he genuinely enjoys children.

Our child sees Dr. Phillip Pearl at Children's.
He also recommended the keto diet for our baby, but has been willing to wean her from it given the minimal improvement we've seen in our child. This is all to say, that Dr. Pearl is quite realistic about what will work for you and your family.

We see Dr. Szuhay at the Laurel Children's Outpatient center. Dr. Pearl at Children's I believe is the head of the department. He was our physician when our son was in the hospital for a 48 hr EEG.

Dr Jessica Carpenter is also terrific. She is at CNMC

Dr. Joseph Scheller at Childrens. I believe he is in the Laurel office. Wonderful
