how does Madewell sizing run?

Does Madewell run similar to Jcrew?
I'm looking at a dress in particular.
I'm an average sized person who historically wore a size medium but now consistently wears a small in dresses/tops at Jcrew.
Would I also wear a small at Madewell?

thx for any thoughts.

Madewell sizing is all over the place, unfortunately, and they don't give measurements.

It is very frustrating.

Usually if I want to buy something final sale from them, I will try to google around and see if any bloggers have written about the item. That'll sometimes give a sense of how the sizing runs for it.

From my personal experience with madewell :
Tops and dresses run large on me, especially their relaxed fit tops that run huge. At least one size too large.
Jackets and outwear tts
Skirts are tts
Jeans and pants one size too big
Shoes tts

I'm medium in European brands and S at jcrew, BR, madewell, gap.

Madewell has an excellent customer service department via phone and live chat. They will give you the exact measurements of any garment, any size. I use it all the time because of the fabric differences on their denim, which can cause a swing of 1/2" in diameter in the waist, for example.
