We need to replace out chimney top damper. Current one is static and rusty. We want one that can be opened and closed from inside the house (via a chain that runs down the flue). Seeking input on the following:
1) The electric/gas savings it provided. If you installed one, how much savings - if any - did it provide on your monthly utilities? 2) How difficult is installation of a chimney top damper? For your average 30-something male attorney, is this a DIY job or a hire-out task? I have not inspected up-close the existing damper. 3) Any recommendations on installers if this is a hire-out task? Thank you in advance. |
I would say anything chimney related is not a DIY activity (and my husband DIYs almost anything, including replacing exterior doors and windows. |
