How does the Philadelphia Zoo compare to the DC Zoo?

We are going to Philadelphia next week. The Philadelphia Zoo will cost us $100 for our family.

Is the Philly Zoo worth $100?

I am not impressed with the DC Zoo but at least it is free. Wondering if the Philly Zoo is worth the money.

I personally love the National Zoo so maybe I am biased but I also wouldn't pay $100 to go to the zoo so maybe I am cheap too.

Become members. It's probably not much more than the one-time trip, and then you ride the carousel, swan boats, little train, horse, camel for free. Just make sure you go up again for another or a few more visits.

There are so many other things to do in Philly such as the Please Touch museum that the zoo would be at the bottom of my list.

The Philly zoo is fantastic and well worth $100. Unlike the DC zoo, it actually has exotic animals.

Look into the CityPass if you will be there a while.

DC Zoo - bigger, more open, some animals the Philly Zoo doesn't have.

Philly Zoo - fewer animals, but more interactive stuff: goat petting/feeding area, more zookeeper talks on a regular basis, carousel, swan boats, horse rides, camel rides, a miniature train ride (note, all of the rides can cost extra). The Philly Zoo can be done completely in a half a day.

If you have younger kids, the Philly Zoo is great and worth it.

DC Zoo also has petting zoo/feeding area, train rides, and carousel.

The Philly Zoo has some animals that DC no longer has, including hippos and giraffes. But it also has a TON of ways to spend more money, including camel rides, balloon rides, train rides, etc. that do not come with the base family membership. Also, depending on whether you get parking in the closer garage or the further lots, you're in for a shuttle ride or a not-short walk to and from parking.

The Philly Zoo actually acquires animals, unlike the DC Zoo. Worth it.

What happened to the giraffes at the National Zoo?

It's a good zoo, but unless you love zoos there are better ways to spend $100.

We enjoyed it partly because it was different from DC zoo, which we visit all the time. We got a discount on admission with our smithsonian membership (i think). Kids were ages 1 and 3 when we went. We spent about half a day. Very easy to get around. Loved the cat exhibits.
