Need recommendation for "Local" long weekend destination - Wintergreen?

Anonymous
I am looking to get away with DH for a long weekend in early July.

We have a sitter set-up but now need to make some travel plans.

Prior to kids we would normally vacation somewhere with a bit of travel involved - fly internationally or across the country. We never really explored things a bit more local.

It does not need to be fancy - [jacket required at Homested] but we would like to get out and do some hiking - possibly a little spa or golf - really just reconnect and relax.

Since it is just a long weekend, I was thinking someplace like Wintergreen might be a good (although I have never been). Any recommendations?

Thanks!

Charlottesville is nice- lots to visit.. (wintergreen is next to C;ville but a small mountain town).. If you want close by mountains - consider Deep Creek, MD..

Loved both of these places! Went to Wintergreen on our "mini-moon" (weekend right after our wedding, stayed for 2 nights) then a month after we were married we spent a week at Deep Creek. We went in April/May. Wintergreen was fabulous! We loved the spa. Ditto with Deep Creek. If you end up going to Deep Creek let me know and I will dig up the name of the spa we went to... it was so relaxing...
