I have already commented on several posts like this as a lot of the comments here are just from uninformed parents or people reaching for things. As someone who works pretty high up in this I will explain what is going on below and why again. The main push for the move back to school year has been to align more with college recruitment and other factors as almost all of these kids aren’t going pro etc.

The decision originally was for MLSN to stay birth year and everyone else would basically go school year. MLS Pro Academies with their ties to FIFA rules, player transfers, etc cannot go school year.

However what MLSN realized after looking at what everyone else is doing is that by ECNL shifting to school year and MLSN staying birth year it puts the non pro regular MLSN clubs at a major disadvantage compared to the ECNL ones many are already competing with for players/status in their region. ECNL would have the potential to have stronger teams with school year compared to MLSN as they would essentially have older players in each age group. This is a major issue and why most non pro MLSN clubs are now pushing for school year or some sort of compromise.

So what will ultimately happen is that yes MLSN will go school year with the MLS Pro academies staying birth year and having their team essentially all compete about a year up. Many already have players in various age groups doing this anyway so it won’t really change much for them and possibly makes games more competitive etc. it also fits the non pro MLSN clubs as at the end of the day especially at the older age groups none of these kids will essentially be professional players and will all go to college.

When MLSN Academy plays up this season and gets destroyed by the older P2P team, which makes the only selling point of P2P MLSN pointless. You can already guess that P2P MLSN will almost certainly go to SY.

Nope, what will happen is if MLS stays BY MLS clubs will host their own BY tournaments and not participate in SY tournaments. ECNL and other SY leagues will be invited to atrend but they'll need to play against BY teams that are 6 months older.

Least likely thing to happen that was every said on this forum

More like this is the thing that scares ECNL hats the most.
MLSN P2P staying BY would be a big gift to ECNL. And the random tournaments at clubs will be SY any way as they are trying to attack teams so the can make their payroll for the year.

Nope, all the MLS clubs would participate in BY tournaments and would not participate in SY tournaments.

The "big gift" would be to MLS clubs that were able to host all the MLS clubs.
.

The only BU tournaments will be out of US (for instance MIC).

If MLS was to stay BY there would be BY tournamants.

Is GA (Generation Adidas) changing to SY? Probabaly not.
.

Ok, you are right, but only international tournaments inside the US, like Generation Adidas.

This is what I'm talking about.

If MLS was to stay BY there will be BY tournamants. It's just how things work. I realize the ECNL parents think they have everything tied up but SY is not how pro soccer works.

99.9% of pro academy teams are not playing internationally. You think u14s from st louis and Columbus and Nashville are just flying to Argentina or Spain or Germany to play? Get real. Some of them can't beat their local P2P MLSN teams

Lol SY or BY is not how pro soccer works. Bro pros dont have an age, they are just pros. MLS MLSPro USL- they are just pros. If you think they give a flying F about BY or SY you are a joke

Ok, explain to me how SY ie School Year makes sense when all you're looking for is to play professionally.

FYI all the European Acadamies outside of England group by BY. It's just the standard when you're looking to play professionally.

Now think about if you were a college coach. Who would you prefer a pro aligned and trained player or a player grouped by SY? This is why MLS can do whatever they want and it wont matter.

Theres plenty of reasons to stay BY.

Theres a very good chance that MLS stays BY and ignores all thr ECNL hats.

Here we are not talking about pro soccer, but YOUTH soccer (where RAE means a lot).

Wtf there is no standard. Why is this so hard to wrap your brain around. The kid is either good enough with pro potential or he is not. They do not care when he was born
Let me repeat that. They do not care when he was born.

Saying there is some arbitrary standard of BY among the world's pros shows you know literally nothing about world soccer.

Your arguement works both ways. Which is why its stupid. Using your logic SY makes no sense because....

"Wtf there is no standard. Why is this so hard to wrap your brain around. The kid is either good enough with pro potential or he is not. They do not care when he was born

You are wrong ! MLSN expectations are to have us play as professionals at an international level. Even if we don’t play oversees unless our moms and dads pay a little bit extra. But my friends at the MLS affiliated MLSN academies are even more potential to play oversees and have to be ready when it happens! They are like navy seals. Our training is so intense and the only reason we play is to go pro ask anyone. You just have no idea what you are talking about. Moving the age cutoff would ruin everything and we could not ever be the same.

Hey Al Bundy your time has come and gone. It's sad and pathetic that you're trying to dump on playing professionally.
