| What has been your experience in Title I schools in Prince Georges county? How are they different from other schools? What resources are available to the kids that would not be available otherwise? |
|
Our daughter is at Spellman which is Title 1. We have had a fantastic experience. There are several computers in each classroom. All classrooms have the electronic projectors instead of blackboards. They have extra funding for ESOL and special education teachers. The entire school is offered breakfast which is nice.
The downside is that there is little parent involvement compared to schools in more affluent neighborhoods. I think that the culture of the school has a lot more impact than whether it is title 1 or not. |
Schools becomes title one because of a lack of culture as a way to try and help kids overcome their parents failings. If parents can't culatavate a home environment better than basically the poverty level why would they be exspected to go above and create and foster an above avg educational environment? In all seriousness there isn't enough extra money in the world to break some of these cycles. I wonder what the poverty recidivism rates are for childer who attend these schools? People pay big money for good schools knowing that kids will get in to fit in most of the time, problem in places like these it is predictable what happens to the kids but people try and blame the teachers, county or anybody but the parents. |

WTF does that mean?
So all people who earn below the poverty live have a "lack of culture"? Wow, tell that to the single mom who left her abusive boyfriend and is now raising her 3 kids on a single salary. Tell that to the family who had a medical emergency and lost everything and is now living in low income housing. Tell that to the family who left a war zone with nothing and are now refugees in our country. All of those describe the family situations of children at our school. Our title 1 school has excellent test scores, equivalent to some of the "fancy" neighborhoods that people on this forum are asking about. The families I see at our Title 1 school, love their children, want the best for their children and want them to have a better life. Most of the kids are well taken care of and have better manners than the kids I know from fancy private schools where the parents are clearly advantaged. These kids are spoiled little brats, with little to no empathy for people who haven't been as fortunate or lucky as they have. A lot of the parents work 2 jobs or provide childcare for other family members. People work the night shift so attending a PTA meeting is difficult. People who have to walk or take a bus everywhere have less free time that those of us who can just jump in our car to go to the grocery car. You are clearly an elitist who has little to no interaction with people who a less fortunate that you are. Parents can be assholes regardless of their income level, as you have clearly demonstrated from your email. I'm happy that you and your child don't go to our lovely school....we are better off without you and your clearly bigoted attitude. People need to get off their high horses and try to walk a mile in other peoples shoes....even if those shoes were bought at the Thrift store. |
And you clearly didn't get a very good education yourself as your spelling is terrible and you can't seem to write a sentence with the correct verb tense. |
