| We unexpectedly have a free Saturday night with our older kids while the little one goes on her first sleepover. Trying to think of something fun and creative that we can do with the older kids. Any suggestions, besides a movie or going to the monuments at night? Thanks. |

I live in the District and have a 12 yr old son. If you meant DC-specific activities, you really can't go wrong with a nighttime Mall tour as the sun goes down. Bring some takeout and sit on the West-facing steps of the Lincoln Memorial and eat. Then walk east along the Reflecting Pool and visit the memorials/monuments that interest you most. Last time we did this, DS was very into the WW2 story. The time before, he wanted to spend all his time at MLK.
It's good to remember why you live here, and not Dallas / LA / Boston / Des Moines. |

Key Bridge Boathouse is open until 7pm. You could go for a paddle to the Lincoln Memorial.

| Try the "beach" at the National Building Museum. |
This was going to be my suggestion. |
| Yards Park! Walk around the waterfront, watch the trapzee students (if they are not flying on the outdoor rig, you can go inside and just let the front desk know you want to watch), dinner at one of the restaurants, dessert from Ice Cream Jubilee. The Nationals are away this weekend, so should lessen the crowds a bit. |
| The Museum of Crime and Punishment is awesome - their ages are perfect for it. |
