Just a thought...

Jeff, first of all, thank you for this site and all the time you invest in it. It has been a great resource to me.

Second, just wanted to say that I think the user demographics of this site must be absolutely fascinating. Would you ever consider sharing where people are from? Any surprises? I wonder what some of the correlations could be...for example, are the grumpy posters mainly DC-ites or from the suburbs?

Thanks, again. I sincerely appreciate what you're doing.

In the republic of DCUM, it's equal opportunity grumpiness.

He can tell where people are posting from but he cannot tell their actual "demographics" unless the posters reveal this information.

While we are wondering about this site, I often wonder if ad revenues have gone up over the last few years since smart phones are now the prefered method of web surfing.

I can't count how many times my clumsy fingers have accidentally tapped on and opened an ad. That never used to happen on my computer.

The best demographics data available is here:

While I am confident in saying that it is the "best", I don't know how good the "best" really is. So, take everything with a grain of salt. Particularly the numbers about users with children compared to without. I can't find the citation now, but if I remember correctly, Quantcast has a strange definition of "kids" and doesn't actually include babies.

Any correlation of behavior to geography would be purely anecdotal. Anecdotally, male troublemakers in the relationship forums tend to be from outside the area. Also, right wing nut jobs in the political forum tend to be from outside the area. But, there are plenty of local troublemakers as well.

Usage always goes up and ad revenues with them. The trend towards mobile has actually hurt us because our ads are not mobile optimized. I have no way to account for accidental clicks, but I suspect that they are out-weighed by the tendency of mobile users to immediately zoom their screens so that the ads are blocked from view.

OP here. This is the stuff I am most curious about. Thanks for this anecdotal example.
