| My son will be turning 11 in September. What did 11 look like for your son? I am a single mom and am a little freaked out that he seems to be developing a bit in the last couple of months. My kids run around naked after the poop, and I think it is time to stop. But for the moment, they are still doing it, and I see fine hairs - a lot of it - on my little boy. Is this too early? I don't even want to ask the pediatrician in case it is a problem. |
| pool. |
| He's within the range. It's WAY better than the 3 year old boys who have mustaches. |
That makes more sense. |
| oh thank God you clarified POOL. |
WHAT? Your ped is there to answer questions. Don't be ignorant. |
| Boys hit puberty anywhere between 9 and 15. It is a process that takes several years. If you haven't discussed it with your son, you should now. He shouldn't be blindsided by it. And I'm not sure why you don't want to talk to the pedi about it. |
| Definitely talk to your doctor. I just had this discussion with my 11 year old's pediatrician and it was very informative. Fine hairs are an early stage - you can look this up. Do talk to your son at the next check-up (or sooner if it is concerning you) and do expect your grocery bills to go up. |
+1 As a general rule of thumb, I trust the advice of my doctor than the opinions of random people on the internet. |
In case WHAT is the problem? Wouldn't you want medical help if there was a problem? Or do you mean in case you look like a fool for asking an "obvious" question? Don't worry, doctors have heard and seen it ALL. My husband is a doctor. My 10 year old son has more, and thicker, hair growing on his legs so far. Nowhere else (he looks diligently!). But none of his parents developed early, so it might be different for yours. For his 10th birthday, I gave him the Usborne book on Growing Up on Amazon. One of the more open-minded and informative ones, about puberty in both sexes and all kinds of background info on biology and health. |
| My son like to run around naked until he turned about 12. Mortified me but he thought it was hilarious. Now that he's 13, he is more modest. I don't think they developed this young when I was a kid. He's taller than me with a size 11.5 shoe and underarm hair. And he is so stinky after sports... |
| 11 is well within the realm of normal. Give you ped a call. |

OP--you've got this thread already. You don't need to post this one as well:
http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/483625.page You and your kid will be fine. So he has some hair growing. Okay, no big deal. Puberty happens in stages that are different for each kid. I'm sure you can read book or a website that lists all the different ways boys will change over the period of several years. If there's a specific situation that comes up and you have a question, you can always come here. or you can ask your pediatrician. But asking for a rundown on everything that can happen during puberty is asking too much. |
Yeah seriously. I was like "what a weird family" and then I was like "oooh" he needs to keep his privates private. This sounds normal though. |
| My 11yo definitely has leg hair, but nothing else that I'm aware of. All of a sudden (like in the last two weeks) he's eating about 2x as much as normal and having wild crazy emotional outbursts. Either he's not getting enough sleep or lunch while at camp, or growth spurt is coming soon I think. |
