Rules of engagement

Anonymous
Hello Jeff

I was wondering if there was any milage in your putting together what you believe to be general rules of engagement for posters on the forums?

Mainly to do with good / bad behavior and not posting when drunk, or taking a minute instead of posting while angry, having debates but not making personal attacks etc? I have learned not to write swear words for instance (I use asterix sometimes to replace letters when I really need to swear now) because I learned from other posters that you don't like to see swearing, that could be made clear in a list of expectations of poster behavior, maybe...

I just wondered because I think sometimes it helps people check themselves when the rules are laid out clearly - and it means you don't have to explain yourself for deleting stuff, which I see sometimes happens in the feed back forum when someone is outraged that their words have disappeared.

Anyway, just a suggestion.

We have the FAQs that sort of do that:

But, I am a big believer in ambiguity when it comes to guidelines. DCUM has too many lawyers and rules provoke an instinctual reaction to find loopholes. I want flexibility in interpreting things so that I can close any inconvenient loopholes when necessary.

Okay that totally makes sense.
