I'm looking to spend $300-$500 for a new sofa (I'll consider used and have looked but have yet to find anything that matches what I'd like).
I've found several couches I like that are on sale or otherwise a good deal, but they are not local and thus come with enormous shipping fees. Does anyone know where I can find a good bargain on a couch locally? FWIW, I'm looking for a comfortable brown couch that looks nice. I would prefer a sleeper but that is not a must. Thanks, everyone!

OP here. I could go up to $600 or so, but have seen many non-local options under that price so I'm hoping to find a similar local option.
Some of the IKEA stuff is okay, but most of their styles are a little too trendy for me. |
| Try department stores, such as JCPenney. They often have big sales and great deals. Also, we had great luck with the Leesburg outlets. Pottery Barn has an outlet there that was a gold mine for us! |

OP here.
I actually found a couch I loved on JC Penney's website, but they were charging $200 for s/h. I called customer service to inquire about having it shipped directly to a store where I could pick it up and was told that was not an option for 95% of the furniture on their website. I was also told that most of the stores do not actually have furniture displays, that furniture is only sold through the website. I'll have to head to Woodbridge and check out the outlets, though! I'm a single woman who lives in the District without a car, so that can be trick, but I'll make it work. Thanks!! |
| Go to Penneys and talk with a salesperson. They will usually waive the shipping and handling as part of a "deal." |
| Check out Haverty's. They've got a website which has decent photo's and prices. There's also Upscale Resale which can be hit or miss. |
| This is the sofa we got from Ikea http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S69841037 I like that we can change the look by changing the cover. I also like that the entire cover is removable and washable. |
| Another option is The Room Store. I've also heard that Regency Furniture is good, but personally didn't try them. |

save your money and go to Ikea! while the kids are young it makes no sense to spend a lot of furniture (sofa/chairs) you know will get ruined in two/three year's time
when they get older (thus can take more responsibility) shell out for something fabulous! |

I bought a sofa from Macy's when it was Hecht's and found it to be reasonably priced and nice quality. But I don't know if Macy's furniture is still as inexpensive since they switched over.
I know a JC Penney's by me (Lakeforest Mall in Gaithersburg) has a furniture display. It's not the biggest, but they might have something. |
| I found some good, cheap deals at Jennifer Convertibles & you can pick up from their warehouse. |
| You could also look at the floor models at Crate and Barrel Outlet in Alexandria, although I'm not sure how many get marked down to your price range. |
| Marlo's? |
