Boy slapped my daughter's butt on the walk from school

Anonymous
I'm not sure what to do. A boy ran up and hit her on the butt while his friends cheered him on. She said he's from her middle school, but doesn't know his name. I'd like to find out who he is and have a word with his parents and/or the principal.

Advice? These are 12 and 13 year olds, or send the police to do it.

The police to do it should have been added to the first paragraph. I'm upset and typing on a phone.

Hitting people is assault.

I think this is normal middle school antics. I wouldn't get my daughter riled up about it at all. If I was worried I would talk to the school.

I do not think this behavior is appropriate, but boys are dumb and were more than likely flirting with her. You should help your daughter with language to empower her and if it continues to involve the parents/ school cause it is harassment- not assault

Good grief. Yes lets get this 12 year old boy arrested for assault. He should be a registered sex offender too.

Do you have a son? Boys will be boys? Oh I know he raped her, but he was just being a BOY!

No. Buck stops here. I'd talk to the principal and the kid's parents. If the principal doesn't take it seriously talk about contacting the police because your kid was sexually assaulted.

This. Just when I think women on this board can't get any crazier, op comes along.

Is this boy of a different culture
Anonymous
yes, let's lock up the 12 year old boy. He's a sex offender. How ridiculous. OP, go have a talk with his parents and the principle. That is enough.

This is the equivalent of a little boy pulling a girl's pigtails because he likes her. It is a crude form of flirting...should we condone it? No. But that warrants talking to the parents about changing the boys behavior and explaining why it is wrong, not locking up a kid and throwing the key away. Talk about overreaction.

I would contact the school, but not the police. I would not let this go, because neither the OP's daughter nor the young man should get a message that this behavior is acceptable in any way, shape, or form.

The fact that OP even mentioned contacting the police is terrifying. And I have both a boy and a girl.
I remember once in 6th grad where a boy grabbed my butt during recess. Didn't tell anyone about it. It's just stupid things some young boys do. Not saying it's right, but it's just one of those things.

This article comes at a very apt time:
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-06-18/no-sex-jokes-please-french-government-advises-travelers-to-u-s-

“It’s recommended to adopt a reserved attitude toward those of the opposite sex,” it says. “Comments, behavior, and jokes, which might be harmless in Latin countries, can lead to criminal cases,” the ministry’s website says.

Reinforcing French views of American prudishness, the website notes that even minors can be accused of sexual harassment[u], and asks that children use toilets reserved for their sex in the U.S.
