For a while I’ve been having lots of the really vague hypothyroid symptoms: fatigue, weight gain, intolerance to cold, memory issues, all that. I made a doctor’s appointment because of it, and he wouldn’t do a test, because he believed I was just getting a diagnosis from the internet, and just need to eat less and work out and sleep more. Fine, his prerogative.
But should I pursue this? I mean, the symptoms are so very vague, so he might be right. My prenatal test actually came back with slightly low TSH, borderline hyperthyroid, but that was two years ago and while pregnant, so who really knows. Does anyone have thoughts on this? |
Depending on where you live, you may be able to order your own tests at privatemdlabs.com. Assuming you're a 30-something female, I think the test should be part of a regular checkup because thyroid issues are very common in that age range.
Lots of women are hypothyroid. You could be one. Your doctor is a jerk. Testing TSH is super easy. Find a new doctor, or just go straight to an endocrinologist.
Get a new doctor. It's absurd that the doctor wouldn't order a simple blood test.

I think that should be part of your annual physical bloodwork. I agree that you may be just looking for an easy answer to why you are fatigued and gaining weight, but it is so common that it's ridiculous not to test.

I'm mind blown by your doctors dismissive, unprofessional response. Get another doctor.
