We are at mlsnext/GA. No one is really talking about it for boys (where we don’t know the decision) or girls (will change to 8/1). Most boys and girls parents know about it and will talk about it if brought up but it feels like beating a dead horse honestly. |
They dont know because MLSN hasn't decided. Last May there was info out at our club and others that MLSN 1 & 2 were staying BY. This has since changed. By all accounts, MLSN is now reconsidering options and is undecided as of now. Maybe this favors a change to SY but maybe not. |
You just hit the nail on the head. If MLSN stays BY, it will not likely be the top draw for about 42 percent of boys. I wish MLSN P2P could stay BY to mitigate RAE for boys and I hope MLSN makes an arrogant decision to stay BY and not a smart business decision to go SY. |
MLS already made a "smart" business decision to implement MLS2 mostly to take over anything ECNL and other lesser leagues have gained. Over time MLS will continue to gain more and more of the boys market. Eventually ECNL will be known as a girls league only even more than it already is. |
| Most kids dream of going pro. Most parents dream of their kid going D1 so they can get into a good school and hopefully a scholarship. If MLSN stays BY, Aug to Dec kids will flock to ECNL in droves. Finally play against kids in their grade on their recruiting schedule and also now have age advantage. They will say yes please. |
You mean ECNL can't survive without the boys side. They will go bye - bye. |
It will be fun watching the ECNL clubs face losing the boys to MLS or maintaining girls ECNL. Eventually they'll switch to GA so they can get MLS for the boys. |
"All the best players in the US born between Jan and Aug will flock there, as long as their parents don’t mind all the insane travel and scamming that they will go pro or get a scholarship." Actually, Jan-July to MLSN, then ECNL gets top players Aug-Dec. |
This has been brought up many times and this isn't how it CURRENTLY works. Could it be that way in the future? Sure, but there are plenty of CURRENT clubs who have MLSN and ECNL. It's not like MLSN is going to accept everyone who applies if they drop ECNL for girls. |
Maybe 4-5 years down the road but it won't matter as all the best girls on ECNL will go GA and all the best girls on GA will go ECNL. If you are pushing this this for your girl in GA, in the end they still wind up 2nd tier and being pushed to ECNL. This is why it makes no sense to care what league is top or second or third level. And wouldn't be surprised if MLSN started a girls side to try to stop losing money considering they have no real connection with GA. |
Nope, both age groups will have MLS as their first choice and ECNL as a distant second. At least that's what I see from all the different players and clubs. Only the girl dad's seem to want ECNL. |

| SoCal clubs seems to be getting info MLSN likely going SY |
I can read and that announcement amounts to almost nothing without action. Did you know they already had a partnership before? It also led to nothing. |
They can't even agree on SY/BY (for now) SMH |
