| Anyone know what happened with Yaida Ford, I thought she was running? |
What restaurants want is a Mayor who actually cares about what affects their businesses---crime, wage rates that put them out of business, city planning that doesn't destroy their livelihoods. Am looking specifically at GGW/JLG idea to make 18th St in Adams Morgan a pedestrian mall, aka a loitering magnet for the drug-addicted, mentally ill, and their dealers. Restaurants don't need handouts if they have a government who can actually grasp economic realities. |
Restaurants have been in favor of the streeteries but moderate Muriel put the smack down on that through fees and bureaucracy. The "extremist" (read: reasonable) left wants to make those simpler to have. |
Firing the chancellor is another. He does not give AF about DCPS, until he realized that was a popular point. |
I trust average people, so laborers (teachers, nurses, etc.) So Janeese Lewis George for me. |
So you are rich and don’t want to pay taxes, gotcha. Also what’s a non-enforceable curfew going to do? Oh ya, not a thing. But what can actual safe 3rd spaces for kids do? A heck of a lot more. Don’t you private school, big business Duff lovers have any better talking points than being dishonest? |
If you're not at all sensible, sure. |
| JLG is now claiming that she is besties with Trayon White and he is a mentor to her. |
A kernel of truth surrounded by lies and spin. Par for the course for you. He mentored her when she was new to the council. That's it. Not even a nice attempt. |
It's really weird to praise someone who has been indicted and is seen on camera accepting bribes as being a mentor and someone who shows up for the city! Why do JLG supporters feel so cult-like? McDuffie proponents are pretty clear-eyed about his flaws but it seems like JLG voters make their support of her their entire personality and defend her to the death no matter how valid the criticism. It's bizarre. |
For me personally? I'm responding to rabid attacks on her from bad faith anonymous trolls. I've had plenty of real discussions with actual people in good faith. |
There's nothing "rabid" about questioning JLG's character and judgment after she campaigned with an unrepentant antisemite who took bribes on camera to steer contracts toward his buddies. That's valid, and it's really disappointing that you are so beguiled by her that you can't see how disqualifying that is. |

Lewis George said using curfews as a tool with young people is “dangerous,” pointing to the presence of federal troops and immigration agents in the city who she said are “not individuals who are trained in de-escalation,” and “are not accountable to to D.C. residents.”
Democrats going to Democrat. It's now "dangerous" to discipline the budding criminal. https://wtop.com/dc/2026/05/dc-mayoral-candidates-offer-competing-visions-on-teen-curfews-housing-economy/ |
I was open to Janeese, have many friends who are publicly backing her, but everything she has said and done this week has made me really, really nervous. She always sees crime from the point of view of the criminals, and never from the perspective of the victims of violent crime, and of law abiding people who want to feel safe. Maybe this is because of her experience as a prosecutor? But it's no good. Pouring money into rec centers and giving criminals jobs is fine. But a mayor needs to be very, very clear that people who commit violent crimes will be punished. I've never heard her talk about punishment. |
+1 I don’t see why it has to be either or. Do the crime prevention programs but also punish crimes when they happen. |
