Absolutely not. Once the populous actually sees how much their ACA premiums go up on Nov 1 they’ll understand what the Dems are fighting for and how corrupt the GOP is

MAGA does not want to reopen the government no matter what you are hearing on the news. Unless you listen to the podcasters that are influencing Trump, you will not ever know what their plans and motivations are. They aren't hiding this information! Democrats are just so certain that they are right and that Joe Rogan and Steve Bannon are just useless drivel, for example, that they don't bother.

MAGA does not want to re-open the government for 2 reasons:

1. Sidelining Congress allows Trump to do more directly (like paying troops.) It consolidates power in the executive branch. Congress is annoying, disfunctional and makes it harder to get things done.
2. MAGA does not have a majority in the House. Until there is, there is no point to opening it because they will just stand in the way.

The GOP has a majority in the house, and at this point it is the same thing. I'm sorry if that hurts the feelings of the half dozen or so remaining GOP reps who think they aren't MAGA, but if you always vote with them, then there is no practical difference.

You also forgot the third reason - with the shutdown over, Mike Johnson won't have any excuse to further delay swearing on Adelita Grijalva, who will the the final vote needed on the discharge petition to force a vote to release the Epstein files. He doesn't have a a legitimate excuse now, but people's attention is focused elsewhere.

Yes - this is what I meant. That the Democrats can force the Epstein files to be released. But the Dems won't be able to if MAGA win the 2 upcoming Tennessee seats. Which they will, because MAGA have bought the voting systems.

Republicans own the House
Republicans own the Senate

Republicans have the votes to stop everything they won't.

They want maximum hardship to make you beg for food and jobs and medicine and yes water people wake the hell up.

At this point don’t care which party wins or loses the shutdown game the legislative branch needs to resume its duties of overseeing the executive branch pronto

Do you think the republicans will do that? They haven’t thus far, though they could. Basically there is little point to R congresspeople right now. They can’t even get benefits for their own constituents.

This shutdown is getting scary - no way out, parties not negotiating, House not even in session. Once the military and coast guard are paid there is no pressure to resolve this, other than ATCs, TSA, and law enforcement.

My former college who now works on the Hill said to prepare for this to go through November and I am starting to believe him. It is starting to feel like we are in this for the long haul. I can miss four paychecks before I really start to worry. I haven wanted to sign up for shutdown paycheck loans, but I am going to this week - if Navy Federal will even offer them once military are paid.

Does anyone care? Because it sure doesn’t feel like it.

I agree that no one seems to care. I’ve been a fed for 20 years and it never felt like people hated us in general and were gleeful about us losing our jobs or experiencing hardships until this year. And last time for the long shutdown, it felt like the business community was really supportive of feds in the city. The vibe is very different this go around. While there are some specials and such, during the 35 day one, there were specials everywhere, my coworkers and I met up and kept each other’s spirits up, patronized the local businesses that were trying to lure feds in, etc. Now, more than half my cws DRP’d and left the area, everyone remaining is stressed to the max. And 13 days in, there’s no urgency, nothing. It’s probably going to come down to TSA and ATCs again to get this resolved, unless they find some sort of magic pot of money to pay those folks from too.

Ha ha. Of course not. Everything is filtered and interpreted by Fox and Newsmax. All you can hope for is picking up all the Independents and some moderate conservatives who didn't vote, or voted for Trump out of apathy and are now waking up. But that's good, because those people taken together are enough to swing all three branches of government back to the left. Just understand that you will never change the hearts and minds of the GOP base. They've been deeply brainwashed for years and unless Murdoch junior has an accident, that won't change any time soon.
