Yes but they will read between every line to try to put her down.

It’s weird.

People did that Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears when they were at the top of their game.

People love to be haters.

The haters seem keenly aware of her lyrics, relationships, age, and other facts about her. It's a bit odd to be so invested in something that's not their cup of tea. Supposedly.

It’s hard to avoid her if you know a Swiftie, use social media, or read the news.

Or choose to come to a thread entirely about her and her newest album …

I guess you didn't read the prologue. She tells the fans what the album is about.

No it doesn’t

Yes it does?? Some of you are so dense or just arguing to argue, I really can’t tell.

In Summation: Summary Poem by Taylor Swift

At this hearing
I stand before my fellow members of the Tortured Poets Department
With a summary of my findings
A debrief, a detailed rewinding
For the purpose of warning
For the sake of reminding
As you might all unfortunately recall
I had been struck with a case of a restricted humanity
Which explains my plea here today of temporary insanity
You see, the pendulum swings
Oh, the chaos it brings
Leads the caged beast to do the most curious things
Lovers spend years denying what’s ill fated
Resentment rotting away galaxies we created
Stars placed and glued meticulously by hand next to the ceiling fan
Tried wishing on comets
Tried dimming the shine
Tried to orbit his planet
Some stars never align
And in one conversation, I tore down the whole sky
Spring sprung forth with dazzling freedom hues
Then a crash from the skylight
Bursting through
Something old, someone hallowed, who told me he could be brand new
And so I was out of the oven
And into the microwave
Out of the slammer and into a tidal wave
How gallant to save the empress from her gilded tower
Swinging a sword he could barely lift
But loneliness struck at that fateful hour
Low hanging fruit on his wine stained lips
He never even scratched the surface of me
None of them did
“In summation, it was not a love affair!”
I screamed while bringing my fists to my coffee ringed desk
It was a mutual manic phase
It was self harm
It was house and then cardiac arrest
A smirk creeps onto this poet’s face
Because it’s the worst men that I write best
And so I enter into evidence
My tarnished coat of arms
My muses, acquired like bruises
My talismans and charms
The tick, tick, tick of love bombs
My veins of pitch black ink
All’s fair in love and poetry
Sincerely, The Chairman of The Tortured Poets Department

lol your HS English teacher would be so disappointed.

Your interpretation is incorrect.

How about that Stevie nicks poem why didn’t you include that?
Anonymous
If you can’t read that and connect the dots to the whole album, I do not know what to tell you. The Stevie poem says the exact same thing a different way and both match up to the themes and lyrics of the songs. Stick to watching Sesame Street I guess.

As always, I'm very impressed that she's able to write these complicated, interesting lyrics. But at the same time, it's such a word dump! I love TS but as another poster said, I feel she's really becoming overexposed. How many albums does she need to put out? And the constant revenge/pining theme isn't healthy for young girls to internalize.

I disagree. I’m 48 and only now getting in touch with my rage as a woman. I was taught to be a real people pleaser, always be glass half full, and I stuffed so much inside and I don’t think that’s healthy. Maybe it’s not healthy to go too far the other way, but I think her generation is trying to balance some of that and I appreciate it.

I mean, look at what is happening in our own country with women’s rights. I think it’s OK for girls to internalize some bad stuff, it’s not sunshine and roses.

I’m 47 and Alanis, Tori and Sinead were my musical rage women. I agree that women need to be in touch with their anger, but they also need to learn to speak it, and act on it (not with aggression, but as a sign that their rights/beliefs are being violated in some way). I don’t think Taylor does the second part well. She can point out her rage and then sit on stage in front of her fans giving a glitter sparkle performance in a mask. The singers of our generation were better about being honest about their feelings on and off the stage.

Interesting Tori wrote about boys and breakups u til she was 33.

All three other women you talk about or raped , to them on multiple occasions, one consistently as a child.

Yeah you’re gonna get a little more rage like that.

Sinead was not a popstar. She was a punk rocker who accidentally made one pop song that ruined our life and eventually lead to her demise.

oh and by the way, Alanis Morissette and Tori is love Taylor, Swift, and Alanis Morissette has performed with her

Okay- good for them! I would sing with Taylor if my way of making money was through singing. I guess I rate her trauma of getting dumped while being a billionaire as much much less than getting raped as a young girl. The thing is Tori Amos also dealt beautifully with rebuilding her self after a break up.
“When you gonna make up your mind, when you gonna love you as much as I do?”
Taylor just starts talking about touchdowns and trophies.
Enjoy Taylor, I will be listening to Maggie Roger’s.

I’m starting to understand why a lot of people hate Taylor because they have the inability to read and comprehend.

I’ll be listening to Maggie Rogers and Taylor, Swift and Imelda, May and pink and Billy Joel and Rihanna and Griff and a whole host of other people.

It’s wild you only have the ability to listen to one artist at a time

literally lol @ all these people thinking they’re too highbrow and their taste too refined for Taylor when Stevie nicks herself will write poems for her albums. Stay delusional.

She’s trying too hard to sound like Lana

For me, it isn't that some people like Taylor's music or that her music is in their rotation.

It is the cult like obsession with Taylor that is an issue. She hasn't become a billionaire due to people liking her music. There are many artists who have great music and a large fan base who love it...they aren't billionaires.

It is the crazed obsession with her as some kind of god or guru or supreme being who is the most talented and most amazing that has driven her to the top. It is the view that she is the peak of musical talent and just being in her presence - even if you paid thousands to sit at the top of a stadium and can't even see her is worth is because you are breathing her air. The panicked rush to do and buy whatever she says or wears or talks about. The belief that you must have her new album within minutes of it going on sale or else you are basically a nobody. That is what has made her a billionaire. The brand that her team has created with the hype about her as someone who is better than anyone else ever could be...many have bought into that and that brings in the $$ because people have become obsessed and irrational about her.

Silly- why are you drawing that conclusion? Luckily, I read functionally enough to hold a job. To be clear, I don’t purposely listen to Taylor because

1. I was molested as a kid. I have been through lots of therapy and will continue to do that probably for my entire life. I can’t understand the level of pain she feels as an adult when someone rejects her. I just don’t. I work every day to find peace, calm and hope in the minutia of my life as that is truly the only thing that brings contentment. Hearing her blather on about how hard it is to be a billionaire that was broken up with has little resonance with me. I can see she is hurt, so I hope she gets better but as an anthem for my life, I don’t identify.

2. I like to badly sing with along melodies at the top of my lungs in the car. She has a singsong talking thing going on especially with this album, so that doesn’t work for me. I know most of her hits from Kidz Bop.

3. She harkens back to high school in her songs and wants touch downs and trophies. I gave up thinking I needed that for happiness a long time ago. Her take on life is that traditional Americana values are the key to happiness. I’m not there.

4. She needs songs about HOW to heal and gain perspective in her life.
