I submitted everything March 18. Then have called twice since then to get status update, last week he said he was almost done and then this week he says he needs my SSN and birth date which I had already provided with my w-2. That makes me think he hasn't even opened the file with my paperwork yet. When I asked for a status update yesterday via email response to his request, it was ignored.
Getting nervous as this is a new CPA for me and I have always had my taxes done by the end of march. |
| I get our extension and amount to send in at approximately 3 pm April 15. |
| My accountant usually turns them around in a week, but this year it has been two weeks so far with no word. |
| DH always sits down with our CPA and the taxes are ready to file by the end of the meeting. We do this in February. I can't imagine it taking weeks! |
| The CPA hasn't gotten to your return yet. That's fine. Don't even worry about the 4/15 date if you are mailing it in -- the IRS received truckloads of mail (literally) around then, so they don't bother checking postmarks until about a week later. If you send it on 4/17, they wont' notice. Just sign it dated 4/15 or earlier. |
This is how it always worked for me as well with my CPA. I stopped doing a F2F meeting with him 2 years ago and now it takes me a month or more to get my return back from him. He's busy, I get that, so I just leave him alone and, eventually, he gets it done. |
| We had to turn our stuff in on March 9 to make an April 15 filing date. We haven't gotten anything to review yet. I expect it will be another week to 10 days. |

Typically I send the paperwork in in late Feb and get it back in a week. This year I sent it toward the end of March. I wasn't expecting it for 2 weeks or more but I still got it back in one week.

I'm a CPA (do on the side - no longer in public). no way someone giving to me on March 19th would have them done already. I have several in progress at the same time while I wait on info. You never know who is in the queue ahead of you either...
I certainly would give 2 weeks esp when it's not even April 1st yet. |
