I'd like to try the barre class at my gym. I'm not in good shape but trying out as many classes as I can, for a little variety. Other than Zumba and body pump about once a week, I'm not in very good shape. What do I need to know ahead of time? Any special clothes/gear needed?

Your gym should be able to tell you about special clothes. The barre studio that I have attended wants tights/capris or other tight fitting pants. Not shorts. There's a reason, something about keeping your body/legs warm.
They should be able to provide the other things that you'd need during the class. (mat, ball, etc.) |
The barre class at our gym provides all extra equipment. Most everyone wears, fitness capris/tights and a wicking Tshirt or tank. Bare feet.
14:48 again. My barre studio (not gym) required socks. Preferably ones they can sell you ("sticky socks") that will help with grip or reduce slips. I wore my running socks.
OP here. Thanks. I guess my question is : how embarrassing is this going to be for an out of shape novice like myself? I'm a little nervous going in cold.

I've been going to Barre classes over at Studio Pinkfit and am way out of shape. I see people of all levels there so don't feel awkward. I wear something good comfortable that helps me with the movements, generally a cotton shirt and yoga pants.
