This does not have anything to do with saving money to fund essential functions during the shutdown, which is what the administration claims makes the firings necessary. RIFed employees were already NOT being paid because of the lapse in appropriations. Therefore, firing them does not create additional money that can be used during the lapse. The money is already not there.

MAGA does not want to reopen the government no matter what you are hearing on the news. Unless you listen to the podcasters that are influencing Trump, you will not ever know what their plans and motivations are. They aren't hiding this information! Democrats are just so certain that they are right and that Joe Rogan and Steve Bannon are just useless drivel, for example, that they don't bother.

MAGA does not want to re-open the government for 2 reasons:

1. Sidelining Congress allows Trump to do more directly (like paying troops.) It consolidates power in the executive branch. Congress is annoying, disfunctional and makes it harder to get things done.
2. MAGA does not have a majority in the House. Until there is, there is no point to opening it because they will just stand in the way.

The whole goal is the shutdown most of government as long as possible. It's also why Johnson doesn't want to reconvene anyone and why the Republicans have been on vacation.

Meanwhile, we are having federal employees "accidentally" fired and then reinstated,.people having to rely on food banks and unemployment.

The GOP has a majority in the house, and at this point it is the same thing. I'm sorry if that hurts the feelings of the half dozen or so remaining GOP reps who think they aren't MAGA, but if you always vote with them, then there is no practical difference.

You also forgot the third reason - with the shutdown over, Mike Johnson won't have any excuse to further delay swearing on Adelita Grijalva, who will the the final vote needed on the discharge petition to force a vote to release the Epstein files. He doesn't have a a legitimate excuse now, but people's attention is focused elsewhere.

at this point i think the dems should cut their losses and pass the cr and enable the legislative branch of govt function again, however terribly it may be. it's better than zero.

It's crazy that the House hasn't even shown up.

At this point I’m tempted to just vote against any and all incumbents, regardless of what party they are or what their opponents stand for. Because anyone else is better than who we currently have, across the board.

It's crazy that the Republicans in the House haven't shown up. Democrats did.

Feds know who to blame for this one.
