| Kids are left home alone during these stupid one-off days on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Another teaching day gone. |
| Are absence rates up going up or down with the fewer 5 day week school weeks? Would think increase as parents use them to build out long weekends and only miss 1 actual day at school. For HS and MS kids, would think they may be missing more on own as not FCPS modeling having to consistently go to school during any given week and students just tell busy parents they thought it was another no school day if caught. |
This should be standard across the county. My school counts travel absences as excused and we are expected to jump through all sorts of hoops to get the students caught up whenever they return. |
| I am sorry. To go away when the kids haven’t been in school for 30 days is ridiculous. That falls on the parents. There are plenty of 4 day weekends that a kid should not need to miss an additional week off around school. |
| This years spring break will turn into 2 weeks with the extra 2 days off the week after |
This! If in ES, 100% time to take that trip to Alaska or Asia. Do it now before in HS! Enjoy! |
Yeah, we are going to Europe. |

I didn't want to create a new post about this but oMG...
THE AMOUNT OF SUB JOBS TODAY IS INSANE. |
An entirely predictable outcome of the idiotic school calendar. |
| Please email the School Board. They need to hear how utterly ridiculous their Calendar is. |
Agree! |
There is a post about the calendar at least once a month on this board, do you actually believe people have not complained to the school board? |
Also summer is so short! It’s hard to fit in summer trips. |
I agree the midweek days off are bad this school year. At least 26-27 and 27-28 don't have many of those. https://www.fcps.edu/system/files/forms/2025-04/2026-2027-standard-school-year-calendar.pdf https://www.fcps.edu/system/files/forms/2025-02/2027-2028-standard-school-year-calendar.pdf |

Was talking to an ES teacher about the 5-day Memorial Day weekend that is scheduled for this year. She said that if your child has passed the SOLS and you can afford it, do you NOT send your child back for the last three weeks of school.
Her reasoning is that ALL of the instruction is done in early April and then its just SOL review. The last three weeks of school will be videos and busy work while the teachers clean up their classrooms or help students who failed the SOLs. Kids will be better off at home with a stay at home parent. |
