And yet Shen Yun constantly fundraises in this area to support their fundamentalist religious propaganda. More people should become aware of what they are supporting.

That’s right, the key distinction is that it’s fundraising and proselytizing. It’s not a dance group that has a set of beliefs, it’s a religious organization that created the dance group for the purpose of furthering their religious agenda. It’s deceptive and distasteful.

So gross.

What an articulate comment! Please say more!

Do you really need me to expand on it? It’s pretty straightforward: people who deceptively push their religion are disgusting.

I don't really mind if they push their religion: they can talk about their gods until they turn blue. Once they cross the line into hateful speech or anti science propaganda (associate atheism and evolution with Satan / Devil), I cannot stay silent.

But they are right. Satan the voice of reason in opposition to their false God. Be a proud Satanist.

I’m not a fan, but I think it’s important to be tolerant and open to hearing other peoples’ opinions. Remember the quote- “I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.”

I am so happy that you would defend my right to say whatever I want about Shen Yun, even if they might get upset with my speech. It is extremely nice of you!

I do actually support your right to express your opinion, the same as I support Shen Yun. The thing that concerns me lately is cancel culture, when people who express unpopular opinions are boycotted or lose their livelihood. It has such a chilling effect on free speech. This wasn’t so much of a problem before social media.

Free speech doesn't mean free access to my wallet.

Spoiler: Satan isn’t real.

Now this is funny. You should post more often because I need to smile more. I am tired of people who associate free speech with freedom to spread nonsense without being challenged.

These are not unpopular opinions, they are hateful against atheists and plain stupid regarding evolution. I wouldn't mind if they lost their livelihood if they keep going that route.

I think Shen Yun must had been pretty clear about it during the performance or you wouldn't be here.

They aren’t clear about it when they are selling tickets. That is the issue. If they were upfront no one would care.

Shen Yun doesn't sell the tickets. You are mad at the wrong people.

They don’t do their own marketing?

The shows are selling out fast. Can’t be that bad. Come on.

They sell out because they hide their mission and message from their advertising.

Well, thanks. I just went down the rabbit hole of this group, the religion, its leader, etc...

Anyone arguing against evolution in 2024 clearly has some screws loose lol.

It was a mistake to just skim the results without reading something more in-depth about the show (like the New Yorker piece). I never thought that Kennedy Center would put such a crap on one of its stages.

There are many "atheist" or "social justice" shows that are performed at the Kennedy Center. How about providing a variety of performances? Not all shows have to appeal to your personal tastes.

Please read the wikipedia on the organization before buying tickets.

Not sure where you get your information from: you can buy tickets both from the venue and from the Shen Yun website.
