The water bottles are killing me

The only thing that makes me feel slightly better is when I use the leftover water to fill the dog’s dish.

It’s how I water my plants

How old are your kids? My 5yo just uses one of the regular screw on caps for the kleen kanteens that we all use. A basic container with a lid like this: https://www.kleankanteen.com/products/loop-cap

We've been using the Pogo bottles from Target and they are spout drinking (NO STRAWS) but they have a flip cover, which also keeps them from leaking.

To this I just say meh. I carry one of these quite often and I guess the spout can get dirty but I'll wipe it on my shirt if it's visibly sandy or whatever, but otherwise... I just drink from it I guess. I rarely get sick, but I am certainly not going to get sick from my own water bottle making physical contact with other items in my bag or even on the floor. I just don't really think that's where most of our germ transmission comes from.

Takeya lids can mold. Ask me how I know.

We have 3 of those large jugs from UA hanging around. My kid played All-Stars for LL and one of the things included in the fees was yet another UA water jug. Oh, joy!

Yeah I can appreciate the inside of your bag and some people are fine with food off the floor (and it’s not like you don’t get your hands dirty and then touch mouth all day). I just wasn’t sure if we were doing it wrong since it seemed so exposed.

My dishwasher isn’t really tall enough to put the bottles upright, unless maybe on an angle in which case they take up a lot of room.

The bottom is not tall enough?

Each kid has 1 bottle. I have 2 and dh has 2. Leftover water is for plants and one of us washes them at night by hand. Not that hard. Less stuff is better than more stuff.

My kids have assigned Thermoflasks. I rinse off the mouth piece but never wash the insides...why? its just water in there.

WWWWWHHHHHYYYYYYY!

You sure? We've had a bunch of different kinds with straws. Lose the straws immediately and they still work fine, you just have to tip it upside down and suck.

If you can't find yours, too bad, so sad. Here, I think less is more. Just have one and they will be forced to keep better track.

Now if you could just help me with the mask situation in my house -- is this clean? dirty? where's the "good mask" I use to for riskier situations?

Until they don't... and you have to buy another one...
Or did you just NOT in the past and left them with no water bottle for a school year and now they never lose anything?

I try to get the kids to put theirs in the outside pockets of back pages and duffel bags for this reason.

Me too. They’re not supposed to go through the dishwasher? This thread is making me concerned. I have plastic ones from Amazon that say dishwasher safe, but I’m also talking about the cheap freebies with pop-up spout that we get at every open house, camp day, etc.

I hate the freebies. They always smell like chemicals to me and they always leak. I want to throw them away ... but isn't the whole point to not generate more garbage?
