| These schools are charging fiat money anyway. The average student debt for graduates of American University in DC grads is $32k. |
Not even half. DCTAG only gets you $2500 for these 2 schools |
Colleges in DC pay no real estate tax. Georgetown and GW have extensive real estate holdings. The mayor should insist they give local students a tuition break |
You're right. Thanks for the correction. It's probably enough to pay for your books but doesn't make a dent in tuition. |
Plus 1. Also DC residents pay more per capita in federal taxes than any other state with no federally subsidized funds for state colleges. How do our neighbors not know how short-changed DC residents are? |
|
All private and they pay no DC property tax. |
| If this passes, would it be effective for the 21-22 school year? It's been 10k since its inception, so an increase is long overdue. OOS tuition is expensive- like most colleges. |
| Oh this is great news! |
Good news! The Senate Appropriations Committee released the bill that includes DC's appropriations and included most of Norton's requests regarding DC TAG.
Norton's request to increase the family income eligibility limit from $500,000 to $750,000 was not included. https://norton.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/norton-secures-major-victories-in-senate-dc-appropriations-bill If this bill becomes law, it will take effect Fiscal Year 2022 which we are currently in. |
You are getting the same thing from your state school. |
Not they’re getting better. University of MD Maryland residents pay: $9000 DC residents pay: $37,000 - $15,000 TAG=$22,000 |
Because at least you have the option of several high quality in-state schools. DC residents have zero. |
+1 |
Thank you for being open-minded and appreciating the reason for this provision when presented with the rationale. Most people don't understand that DC does not have a public state school similar to every other state and don't really recognize how daunting it could be to not have any option for in-state tuition. |
