Good dessert to bring as a guest

I don’t know if this is still true, but WF cakes used to vary from store to store. The only good one I ever had was from River Road and it had a nut flour base and a raspberry jam glaze on top. Didn’t see it the last time I was there, so I don’t know if the make it any more.

Gooey Buttercake--it's very easy to make and can be cut into bars. It's very sweet and goes well with hot cup of coffee after dinner & kids will love it!

Recipe:
Ingredients
1 (18 1/4 oz) package yellow cake mix
1 egg
16 tablespoons melted, divided butter
1 (8 oz) package softened cream cheese
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 (16 oz) box powdered sugar

Preheat oven to 350 °F.

Combine the cake mix, egg and 8 tablespoons butter and mix well with an electric mixer. Press mixture into the bottom of a lightly greased 13 by 9-inch baking pan.

In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth. Add the eggs, vanilla and 8 tablespoons butter and beat together.

Next, add the powdered sugar and mix well. Spread over cake batter and bake for 40 to 50 minutes. Make sure not to over bake as the center should be a little gooey.

Let cool and then sprinkle w/ powdered sugar and cut into squares. You can serve cut squares on serving tray for a nice presentation.

This is one of my go-to desserts that is always a crowd pleaser.

You have to know your guests. We always get asked to bring dessert because we make amazing desserts and love to do it. Though I would never ask anyone to bring dessert because I know whatever I made would be better. Though unlike the PP who said it's burden to bring one unasked, it wouldn't bother me. I'd just serve both! But I don't mind having leftovers either -- love having extra sweets around. Some people find that the most annoying part because they don't want "temptations" around.

I bring a chocolate cake from Alexandria Pastry Shop for dessert. We have them even at Thanksgiving

I like and have brought a number of these and I wouldnt call anything I have brought a hit (i am a fine baker, haha)- as a pp said, you have to know your crowd - some would love a fruit tart and hate blondies - or love rice krispies and hate a flourless choco torte. I feel it can be hard to bring one dessert to appeal to a group. So, sometimes I buy a small cake like a flourless choco torte and bring homemade choco chip cookies, it tends to satisfy dessert snobs and those (like me) who prefer nostaglic kid-friendly desserts.

A big pan of brownies covered with a thin layer of dark chocolate ganache. Everyone loved.

No, everyone doesn't love them. Or chocolate chip cookies. I don't like either of them and really hate it when people are so unimaginative.

True. I just posted that I don't like brownies or choc chip cookies. Love flourless chocolate torte and fruit tartes. You def should know your audience.

Well, you're cooking for a group, not yourself. I'd rather have a well-made cookie or brownie over an "imaginative" kumquat tart.

This looks fantastic! I'm copying it to make for Mother's Day (and yes, I'm the mother, but doesn't that mean I should have a dessert that I like?).
