The only people who follow the science in fcps are the coaches. They need to fire all of Gatehouse and put the coaches in charge. |
This area doesn’t follow science. They follow the government and fear. Science has proven that kids can go to school every day. |
Thank you PP for pointing this out to me! If what you're saying is true, then it sounds like the science is there for 3 ft spacing during lunch at least for elementary. What I hope FCPS will do is start planning for 5 days of in-person learning in the fall with 3 feet at all times because the science is not there for 18 inches. They should start planning for a 5 day virtual option as well (because not everyone who wants this option is high risk, but they will still need families to choose this option). |
I have talked to leadership. That is not what they are planning. They claim they cannot stand up the 5 day full virtual option for 21-22. It will be limited concurrent. |
| There is virtual Virginia for students that can’t go into the classroom. That’s what the rest of Virginia is doing. |
We're already doing concurrent, and we would be happy to continue this model until kids under 12 are vaccinated. Like the father who called into the town hall on Wednesday, we're not being given the choice. |
Teachers don’t that. |
What if you can't afford full time enrollment at Virtual Virginia (FCPS does not cover full time enrollment)? It's $5,500 per student. "Public education" at private parochial school cost. All of us parents need to work together to make 5 days a week of "public education" happen for all students next year (in person and virtual). |
You do have a choice. You can attend in person or enroll in Virtual Virginia or another online program. |
virtual has not worked for my kids for a year now, I'm happy to have the district focus on making in person work 3 |
Your post may be good-intentioned, but the loudest DL advocates this year couldn't have cared less about making in-person public education happen for us this year. They relentlessly mocked and heaped blame on us. |
| Virtual Virginia is FREE. You unenroll from FCPS and enroll in it. |
Who exactly do you think gave the coaches the guidelines for how to execute their seasons? I am a coach, and I'm incredibly thankful for the efforts of the folks in central and our athletic trainers so that we could have a season. |
Concurrent makes in person instruction garbage. That's the problem. They can't teach the 20 kids in class correctly if everything has to be on a google slide for Larlo at her parent's beach house. |
That’s great that you like concurrent. Unfortunately for you, though, teachers, principals and most parents hate it and think it isn’t adequate for the kids in school or the kids at home. You got your choice this year. Many families wanted to be in person in the fall and didn’t get their choice. So sorry, the “we’re not being given the choice” argument isn’t going to get a lot of sympathy here. |
