did both of you who got notes get notes saying to hang in there?

We do not have connections at the school, but we did make it clear that we were open to being active and contributing members of the community (not wealthy, but have some in-kind professional resources that might be helpful).

I am just curious - how did you convey this information? I thought we simply filled out a form with name, address, etc. Where do you have the opportunity to give this type of info?

Yes mine said something like that? You too?

New poster here - we also got a hand-written note from NCRC. Our DC got accepted at Aidan as well. We will go with Aidan as it is something for sure.

We brought it up in our conversation with the DOA and reiterated it in our thank you note to her following the playdate.

For those of you wondering about older kids at Little Folks - I'm a current parent there. There are several kids in my child's class who turned 5 shortly after the year began, and they seem to be having a great year. Once could already read and write fairly well at the beginning of the school year, and the teachers seem to find individual time to nurture those skills (I don't think any other kids in the class are at that same level, though some are beginning to read & write). The older kids seem to enjoy "teaching" the younger ones.

Stupid question but when do children typically learn to read and write? I'm sure it varies greatly, but when do most schools start teaching these skills?

12:07 poster, or anyone else for that matter, why did you choose Aidan over SfF? I know, before someone says it, it is about your child and the perfect fit, but I still think some of the reasons apply to everyone!

I've heard that Little Folks does fairly well with Pre-K placements for ongoing schools. What about Kindergarten placements? Do most of the children leave for Pre-K such that there aren't many older kids in the class, or do most leave for K?

We heard from NCRC, it was a "yes" for DD for the afternoon class. No sibling, no connections.

Congratulations! Did you get into any other schools?

To 15:13, congrats.

And so nice to hear you got in without any connections. You must feel great.

Congratulations!! Glad to hear some good news, finally.

For the record, I just learned of another new family accepted. In this case, they do have connections at the school.

14:10 - about Little Folks - I don't know the specific answers. I know that about 20 kids leave each year and about 20 stay - don't know how many are applying for pre-k vs. k. There are definitely a number of parents this year who chose not to apply out at all for pre-k, preferring to stay for the second or third year, and also some who applied to only their first choice, planning to stay for the pre-k year if they didn't get in to that one school. At the beginning of the year, my 3-year old was right in the middle of the age range for the classroom - about half were older and half younger.

Huh. Didn't someone get a waitlist hand-written note from WIS saying "you're next" and got in that week?

If NCRC is that positive, it would have been nice if they gave you some sense of where you are on the list. Obviously they can't give you an exact number or a guarantee, but you'd think they woul have enough experience to know roughly if they mean days or weeks to "hang in there". Seems a little odd.

Congrats on SfF and Aidan!
