Next Stimulus Payment -- WHEN????

And it needs to fricking hurry up. I don't know how much longer my husband and I can keep helping family. Plus my husband lost his job and there isn't going to be a going back to that. Since we got a small severance his applying for unemployment was for nothing. Apparently $46,000 makes you unqualified for any relief. It's stressful carrying so many burdens. Lots of people are suffering. You just never hear about them.
Your husband got a $46k severance package?

This actually made me LOL.
I’d happily trade that for my unemployment check

Yes. For 37 years of loyalty. It was supposed to be $67,000 but the govt took their cut. We have a HSA with 14k in it so we're needing that to cover healthcare for a year. I did manage to save $150,000 in the three years since we paid off our house but when your sister is off work for a hip replacement and needs just about everything that entails for a few months, BIL got cut hours and I can't stand the thought of him not having enough food or no phone, son got laid off so we carried them for four months. It couldn't be helped. Another works gig jobs and needed a car plus rent for a while. Husband went to work one morning and came back home with no job. We're both 60 so at the rate we're going money will start evaporating. We won't make it to SS. If we could tap into our IRA without getting tax f'd we could do all this and not worry. We could split the next stimulus again like the first one, help everyone out with at least enough gas and food for a month. Pay one's rent for a month, house note for another.

We're poor millionaires. But it's really not funny. Something will give way soon. Something good I hope.

My husband was one of 750 that lost their job in the company. We are fortunate to have saved what we did when we did. Still, seeing minuses instead of pluses in the bank account stings, NEVER EVER think your job is forever.

Five of our neighbors no longer have jobs. This corona crap has been hell on lots of people.

No offense, but you were not the type of family that the stimulus was intended for. If you're "poor millionnaires" then you are outside the scope of the stimulus.

That said, someone in your family, your husband, your BIL or your son should start working and bringing in additional income for the extended family. There are still many many jobs at Amazon, third party shippers who contract with Amazon, Door dash, Instacart, Target, Walmart and many other stores that are open that need employees to work. My neighbor works at Home Depot and they need more employees in most every store. She says that they don't have enough staff to cover all shifts, especially if/when someone has to take off for illness. There are many jobs out there and if you don't qualify for stimulus or it isn't enough, someone in your extended family (most likely your son, since he is going to be the least susceptible and in the least danger of getting seriously sick) needs to work. He can do what my neighbor does. She goes to work, comes home and immediately tosses clothes in the laundry and showers and washes up. She's been doing this every week since March (Home Depot never had to close) and no one in their family including her mother who lives with them, have gotten sick.

Seriously PP?? I am not the poster with the severance package, but I read your response and thought "what a pompous ass". Do you realize how self righteous and what an a$$hole you sound like? Looks like you've got it all figured out, why don't you run for Congress because obviously your experiences are universally transferrable to everyone else. You sound like a callous tool. The poster with the husband who has lost his job in one day after 37 years, has family that is in dire straights and is reeling from trying to keep it all together doesn't need your lecture on how easy it would be to just fix their situation. While I agree with the fact that the stimulus wasn't meant for people like her, your insensitivity and smugness are grating. I hope if catastrophe hits you someday you get the same amount of empathy and support you seem capable of giving..... very little.

PP's husband could also avoid the taxes altogether by paying back the CRD to an IRA within three years.

This.
And also, your adult children and sister should each have their own stimulus check and not need yours

I am sorry your DH lost his job. One where he worked for so long. That is difficult.

On the positive side, you have a house that is paid up. Adding the $47k to the $150k (in three years) you saved since paying off your house means that you have nearly $200k to use for emergencies like this. Your DH is also eligible for COBRA for 18 months and that allows you enough time to figure out the ACA options. Since the cost of health insurance through the ACA is based on income, you can probably quailify for aid since your income has gone to $0 if you are also not working. If you are working, you may have options there. You should be able to tap into your IRA because you are both over 59 1/2- there is no tax penalty.

Will your DH get any sort of pension? He started working before pensions started to be reduced and eliminated- was he grandfatheried in ?

Also, have him check the Federal Government job site. He might be able to find a job there- it may not pay close to what he was getting but they have health insurance and if he works there 5 years he can get it in retirement.

No, no pension. We maxed out yearly on the company IRA. We have another small one so when he got the boot we transferred that to our personal IRA.
And you're right, we are in a good place. Our biggest worry is family. And the reason we will share our stimulus is because no matter what happens, we will always have more than them. That fact alone makes the sharing more important. If we can help their burden, we will do it. And we want nothing in return. It doesn't matter if they get a stimulus check too.

This is our heart center. We have no parents still alive. My kids are lucky they have us. I never remind them of that but I'm sure they know. The one question I ask myself is what if no one cared. The absolute most heartbreaking feeling is thinking I'm alone. I have no one to help me. I cannot let anyone feel like that.

But, good news. Things will work out. Avenues opened up that will help us all. We just have to ride it out a little longer.

Thank you all for the replies. You have been nice. I appreciate all the advice. We're going to be okay.

I don't think undocumented immigrants are considered for stimulus payment under CARES act. I wouldn't be surprised if democrats are pushing for it though.

Wow it’s the first time I heard people saying they suffer in coronavirus. All my friends are boasting about their stock earnings and new house purchase, or beach vacations, made me feel I was so left out.

If you’re paying for COBRA, it could be worth checking out your options through ACA -and even other self-pay plans. I’m not sure how to check this — but I think you might be able to tap into your IRA without penalty — as part of the CARES act.

I really admire the way you’re helping your family! I wish you and your family all the best as you move forward.

Thank you. I told my sister recently our mother would be happy to know she's being looked after. I think my FIL would be happy knowing his oldest son was looking out for his younger brother. All in all it does my heart so good doing what we do. In my perfect world I want everyone to have what they need and some wants. I want smiles not tears.

My husband got a job offer today. He's going to take it and work another two years then officially retire. We'll have affordable healthcare and enough coming in to still help when needed. What a surprise. Was not expecting that at all.

Thank you all for the replies. Life really is beautiful.

Why is he retiring early? 62? Really. 65-67 is normal retirement age.

The Senate is on leave for the entirety of the middle of July -- so definitely not. They're on vacation from July 3rd - 17th.

So yeah...not happening.

So the Senate is going to go on vacation then declare $600/week is over for the unemployed? Will be interesting to see how they handle a depression economy in August with only a few months before the election.

They're talking about writing a bill and passing it between the 18th - 31st of July. But it sounds ridiculous. If I wrote a thesis in college in a week I'd get a failing grade.

The Senate does it and its fine. We'll see if they can even do it.

It wouldn't make sense to me for them to NOT pass it and then try to do something new in August/September. The 50 states worked hard to sync their systems to the new unemployment payout system; won't go over well to have to redo it because they passed a new bill with new regulations.

Mnuchin just said he wants the new legislation passed by July 20th. Giving them 3 days to get it done when back from recess. I'm guessing they're hammering it out between now and then.

The Trump administration will work “on a bipartisan basis with Republicans and Democrats,” on the bill, Mnuchin said, adding it is a “priority” to have legislation passed by July 20.

The second round of checks would come months after most Americans received a $1,200 sum as part of the $2 trillion rescue legislation passed in March.

MCConnell wants the next stimulus check to only go to people making 40k or less. Is this a stimulus check or welfare?

Did you consider it welfare when you were included in the payout?
