If you're Christian, are you going to church for Easter?

Anonymous
I don't know if it's expressly prohibited in VA but my Methodist church and all the churches I know of in Northern Virginia (variety in denominations) are closed and only doing services virtually.

The ones getting press attention for not closing seem to be evangelical churches in the deep South.

Once again.

Same idiot who tried to stir up trouble starting three other threads.

You're just full of prejudice, aren't you, OP.

Don't worry. I'm sure at some point in your life Catholics will do something egregious and you'll have a field day!

Oh jeez. I'm not anti-Catholic.

It was a question borne from all the coverage of churches being open. You all are so defensive. I would be saying the same thing about mosques if a major Muslim holiday were coming up.

Funny you say that because a major Muslim holiday IS coming up: Ramadan 2020 in United States will begin in the evening of
Thursday, April 23 and ends in the evening of Saturday, May 22.

But I bet we won’t hear from you because you obviously are fixated on Catholics.

How can you quote a post from the PP saying the exact opposite of what you accuse?

Pay attention to logic, please. Make your case better, you make the rest of us Catholics look like idiots. Most Catholics here are advocating following the Pope's orders and yet you keep typing. Please stop, we don't need you defending us.

NP. I’m not Catholic but you do seem pretty anti-Catholic. Or at least ignorant. If you’ve been seeing “many” reports of church gatherings (and I haven’t seen these reports), then you’d know the denominations and you wouldn’t be blaming the pope.

Come on. It's not unreasonable to look at reports of churches being packed (and they've been in mainstream news outlets, so I'm surprised you haven't seen them) and ask about the Catholic Church. It's great that they're being responsible--that's wonderful--but it's reasonable to ask about other churches.

In a Western country, it is unpardonable to not know the difference between the main Christian denominations.

Based on the news coverage on these churches that refuse to close, its abundantly clear they aren’t Catholic (or really any of the older denominations with national/international hierarchy and leadership), but local (mega) churches.

I wasn’t raised in any real religion, and can figure that out, c’mon.

And yea, I do think those crazies will get hit, hopefully it’ll be contained enough to not spread outside their communities and won’t overtax the local hospitals.

Evangelical Christian. I will be going to church on Easter the same way I have since March 15th... via live stream. The church is not a building. Thankful my Lord promises to never leave or forsake me.

To answer OP’s question

YES we will be attending from our living room like thousands of others in the DC area will also be doing that day

As a PP already stated churches of al denominations have cancelled in person gatherings

Us Jews will stay home for Passover (all the synagogues I know of have gone to totally virtual services anyway) but I've heard nothing from the Pope. It's inexcusable that he hasn't come out and urged Catholics to stay home and access virtual masses.

Most responsible churches have closed for the next few weeks/months. Churches usually have a lot of old people too.

This made me laugh.

You don’t know much about Catholicism then. People seem to think it’s like fundamentalist Protestantism with preachers in funny clothing.

Because you're Catholic-bashing. If you didn't mean to do that, surely you'll have no problem apologizing.

But I think you knew exactly what you were doing.

I've now posted several times how wonderful it is that Catholics are being responsible. No one has answered the question about other denominations.

DP. Several people have already posted about their Protestant denominations. You’re just too focused on Catholics.

+2. Or even just know the difference between catholics and protestants/everybody else. And why not start a thread about the Orthodox Jews?

Geez, OP, targetting Catholics seems pretty deliberate to this non-Catholic.

OP, next time at least don’t mention you’re Jewish, like you or some other Catholic-bashing Jewish poster mostly does. (There’s another Jew on here who has admitted they hate Catholics, is that you?)

I'm not Catholic, but my church has been closed for 3 weeks.

I'm not interested in what the Pope says.

Op just wanted to pick a fight.

Methodist here. And yes, same for us. We just finished watching Palm Sunday service. And next week, we will again participate via the live stream and live chat for our Easter Sunday service.

While we all miss going to church, even our pastor says that we, the community, are the church and we worship together with or without the building. She says that it is more important for all of us to be safe than to be in the same building.
