So do you tip when picking up a food order?

You know that waiters and waitresses don't make money and the restaurants will close if everyone did take out right?

Lol....taking time off...to pack your stuff for you! The word hero gets thrown around a lot, but....

Please. They're doing their job.

And they are paid via TIP.

It’s the employers job to pay their employees. I’m not the employer, just a random hungry person. Tossing food into a box is not difficult… if I’m at a restaurant getting a doggy bag, half the time I do it myself anyways. Should I get half the tip I’d give the server because I put my own food in a box? I’m sure servers would be pissed about that! But when they (or a cashier or whoever is taking phone orders) has to put the food in the box, all of a sudden it’s a HUGE MASSIVE inconvenience! Funny how that works.

Right.

People started doing this during COVID because they knew the whole industry was being decimated.

Now, restaurants are still trying to get us to supplement their compensation for employees. Don’t fall for it (because of what is printed on the receipt??!!).

Boohoo. Capitalism baby! They can pay them a living wage then.

No, people who have class have always tipped for takeout.

Then don’t complain when there are no restaurants. What’s a living wage? I live in Arlignton, and I couldn’t live on $200 an hour. Should waiters make $200 an hour?

I tip when picking up take out from a sit down restaurant wheres taff relies on tip. Usually 10% I do not tip at a fast casual place like Chipotle where the staff is paid a regular wage.

You crazy for that

Sorry you're poor and you'll miss 4-5 dollars. 4-5 bucks a few times a week is not changing my life but I know it brightens the day of the service workers, so why not.

I don’t tip on anything where I place the order standing up or I pickup the food myself.

I haven’t noticed a mass closure of restaurants due to lack of takeout tipping.

I tip 5% at my regular places on my take-out because I like the food and the people. I do not tip at new places - I want to see how they treat me without the tip first.

For sit-down service, I tip 15% at all times unless there is a problem, or 20% if they go above and beyond.

It depends. I stopped tipping at Pizzeria Paradiso, since they put in the system of including the tip.

I also tip regularly about 10-15% at a Chinese that we order regularly from.

Others, I’d put in 5$ or so depending really on the order.
