Because your kids are going to pick produce, butcher meat and clean hotel rooms and rich people's homes? Alabama tried this. Crops rotted. Landlords went bankrupt. Guest worker program with path to citizenship for those who work is the only way. Terrorizing these folks will just create chaos.

You're ignorant. There is no reason to go door to door and "randomly" stopping Latinos to ask for papers. There's no reason to deport people who have been living peacefully in our country since they were children. That does not help our safety.

Try reading the article before setting up your very own strawman.

I read the article and there is nothing wrong with PPs statement. they are literally going door to door, going to schools, holding random checkpoints in unmarked cars asking for documents. They are not just targeting people who have been charged with a crime, as the administration has claimed. They have deported some people immediately, according to the article, and have detained others. Someone please tell me how this makes America more safe. I'd argue it actually has the opposite effect, as it freaks out the entire immigrant community, members of which will no longer report crimes to the police.

There is nothing in the article that days they are doing or did any of ose things. Why would they go to a school? That makes no sense. They don't want to be dealing with a bunch of kids,

It seems to be lost on many people that being in the country illegally is in and of itself a crime. So basically, yes, every illegal person is a criminal.

No having improper paperwork doesn't make you a criminal. But clearly it makes you feel good to tell brown people they're criminals just because of their country of origin.

I am as liberal as they come, and think this policy is misguided and poorly implemented, especially with respect to people who were brought here as children. At the same time, this kind of reductive "logic" drives me nuts. In an effort to skew the discussion, many liberals routinely refer to "undocumented immigrants" who have "improper paperwork," implying that it is akin to failing to renew your driver's license. But it is not that. "Undocumented" is just a polite, and misleading, way of saying that a person did not come into this country in compliance with out immigration laws - in other words, illegally. Because of that, they don't have the "paperwork" that demonstrates that they are legally in the U.S. Not having "papers" is not a crime in and of itself - it is the result of, and evidence of, the unquestionably illegal act of coming into this country without complying with the law.

I really think the liberal insistence in implicitly characterizing this as an administrative infraction hurts the cause. There are better ways to address it than what the "so-called" President has done, but let's at least be honest about what we're dealing with.

This.
We can't just deport all of them or scare them into leaving. Our agriculture sector depends heavily on these workers.

Are you a criminal when you speed while driving? It's the same type of "crime". Misdemeanor.

But is it? Using our schools for free for 13 years, getting free medical care? Hm not so free.

Not for free. They pay sales tax and enable their employers to pay more taxes. Allow those who have steady work to become permanent residents and, for those who produce, citizens.

I also support these actions; my family members followed the rules and had to wait in line before emigrating legally.

The illegal immigrants arrested this week shouldn't have broken the law; now they need to return to their home countries.

As for those calling these enforcement actions "chilling," let's all hope this has a deterant effect on those thinking of illegally coming here.

Sales tax? You're joking, right? Sales tax is a pittance.

And illegal aliens use plenty of public services which others have to pay for.

They also pay income and social security and medicare taxes. And don't pull anything out of those systems.

It's going to have an economic impact.

They come here to learn and work decently. Many of them become successful agricultural entrepreneurs. These are the people who contribute to make U. S. great anytime.

So many of you miss an important point. Legal/documented individuals can do that work too. I hear what you're saying about other Americans don't want to do that work. 1) maybe they will 2) *legal* immigrants will and 3) there is an undesirable reason illegal immigrants are hired for these tough and low paying jobs--because they are easier to take advantage of. Illegal immigrants need to come in legally so they can push for more respect. Hard to push for your work rights when you're not even supposed to be working.

All "illegals" with whom I work pay taxes, all! They all get a paycheck with taxes taken out.
We can't find and keep Americans. We make anywhere from minimum to $30 and hour. We are always short of workers, and some of you are talking about sending the farmhands home?! Good one.
"Illegals" subsidize your lettuce, tomatoes and broccoli.
Many of them are the descendants of Native Americans. This is actually their land. It's the white man who came to their land divided the Americas. What land has straight lines unless somebody took the ruler to it?! The nerve white man has.
Esol? America has saved plenty of money by not teaching foreign languages to their own children. They can use it on ESOL now, and ESOL lasts only 1-3 years.
But seriously, I've lived here 20 years now and know only a handful of Americans who can carry a conversation in another language. What a waste of time and money.
I see 3-year old immigrants speak 2 with no problem on the playground. No money spent whatsoever.
For those who still think they are missing some money because of "illegals", ask the companies who benefit form them.
By the way, I truly believe Melania broke few immigration law and should be sent home. What she did is not hard at all. Many Europeans do it. I've done it twice, but somehow still ended up legal just like her. Melania and I are legal (and white) therefore we are better than them.

You liberals needs to take a few of these illegals into your house for a few days. Maybe your faux outrage would turn into real outrage once you get a dose of what it's really like to deal with these folks.

I saw about 10 police cars parked behind a van with around 10 men on i-66 east near exit 65.

I work as a public interest lawyer and frequently encounter undocumented immigrants in my work. I have found most of this population to be hardworking and committed to their families. What is your personal experience with this population? I am asking sincerely.

If you really care, open your doors and offer a safe space. That's what my European relatives did during the War. They hid Jewish children in their homes, and paid with their lives.

How much do you really care, PP?

Well, we've befriended many over the years and DH mentored one who is now working as a naval sub officer - one of the toughest military programs to get into - so yeah, we are proud of our "illegal" immigrant friends and our lives have been enriched. Have you ever invited them to your home? If so, I'm sorry you have had a hard time, unlike us.

We have family members who came in and overstayed their visas, have worked in white collar jobs for years (sometimes decades), earned money, paid college/grad school tuition, spent $$$$$ in our economy and paid taxes the entire time that they will not get back because when they finally become legal (ours through work sponsorship), they start anew paying taxes under their name and new social. They are full contributing members of the US regardless of their status. Our kids' classmates parents work 2-3 jobs, most have their own businesses and bust their @$$es off.

Immigration reform is fine but there are millions of kids who were born here to immigrant parents whose families are/will be torn apart if this continues. I live along rte 1 in Alexandria where the raids took place and the fear on the faces of, in particular Muslim women wearing scarves but now Hispanics too, is palpable and many of them are here legally and they are terrified. This type of treatment will breed homegrown terrorists among young men who already struggle here. We already have plenty of white male terrorists - let's not get started on another type.
