This. It's not nefariousness, it's incompetence. |
+1. Idiots. And for everyone who says they do nothing except stand guard on the parade route. Not true. Crowd control for one (unless you think that the Trumpkins will just peacefully pass protestors by, given their tracj record). Also Schwartz is in charge of coordinating air defense over D.C. ( you know, foldpks not fling planes into the capital during the inauguration). So yes, unimportant stuff. |
| "Idiocracy"was a documentary and we didn't even know it. |
| So, it all goes to hell on 1/20, and who gets wiped out? Trumpkins and their dear leader (plus Pence in the wings). . And the average of the remaining American ps IQ goes up ten points. Win-win-win. (And they will have completely brought it on themselves). If they don't want the competent black guy protecting them and theirs, oh well. That's on them. |
Things will be fine. Drink some more wine and calm down. Nobody's getting wiped out because one General lost his job. |
Look at the photo. Not a fit one in the bunch |
| The president doesn't appoint the commanding officers who f the national guard. If he's on an age defferment the city has had the chance to replace him before. There will be someone else who replaces him at 12:01. That's what happens. |

According to the liberal's best friend (The Washington Post):
"Two military officials with knowledge of the situation said the Trump team decided to accept the resignation. A person close to the transition said transition officials wanted to keep Schwartz in the job for continuity, but the Army pushed to replace him." Blame the Army, not Trump. https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/public-safety/commanding-general-of-dc-national-guard-to-be-removed-from-post/2017/01/13/ |
You may not have read correctly. The Army and the transition team are blaming each other. |
One can always hope. |
It just doesn't seem like the biggest deal. |
| However while we are on the topic of the national guard I hope the next time dc has a crime spike the Mayor will consider deploying them. Not at all sure why they aren't patrolling Chicago. Why do we have them if not to protect? |
| The DC National Guard and the DC Air Natl Guard do a lot more than some posters here realize and are vitally involved in inaugurations. Other examples: the DC Air Guard not only fly the First Lady around but they guard DC air space 24/7 from incoming threats of all kinds - they are fully responsible for the air space in/around DC. They also deploy overseas frequently to combat areas. |
At the risk of stating the obvious, the national guard is ill-suited to community policing. This is one of those knee-jerk tropes that betrays a lack of seriousness. |
We haven't had riots as bad as Baltimore -- didn't the Guard had to intervene and stop the violence there a couple years ago? |
