Thinking of having only one child...

I know someone who lost not one, but two children.

He was glad he had three.

I did not post this, but have to say I completely agree. Anyone ever heard the expression, "An heir and a spare"?
This thinking was not at all unusual in the past particularly when infant mortality rates were very high and many children did not live into adulthood. For example, my grandmother gave birth to 10 children and only 5 reached adulthood.
We are, as humans, programmed to want to pass on our genes, so the consideration of having more than one child to increase the odds of that happening, is not so weird or far-fetched, probably just natural.

One child is just fine for many families. You need to do what feels right.

The point about being prepared for multiples is important. Twins and triplets are common now but I don't think many people understand how risky these pregnancies can be. The risks for prematurity and low birth weight are very high. The earlier they come, the more challenges they and you will face. As a preemie mom, the world of the NICU and preemie issues was something I could never have imagined. Not trying to scare anyone but it makes sense to understand and prepare.

OP here

OMG OMG OMG I am pregnant!

Woah

I cant even tell DH yet b/c I just called him and he's in a meeting...

Holy Cow

I tested just to get it off my mind b/c I was expecting my pd today or so but my boobs were really swollen all of a sudden and my pd had not come yet... I totally thought I was being paranoid and that it would be murphy's law that if I spent $15 on a preg test then it would bring my pd along!

OMG OMG OMG

Happy but just shocked

Last night we discussed going on the pill for a few mos to give us breathing room on the subject...

I had to tell someone since I cant tell him yet!!

Congratulations! I was the poster that basically said if you have a happy marriage you're going to have a happy family regardless of how many kids you have. I'm very happy for you.
