What is the best documentary you have ever seen?

Happy Valley - its about the Penn State scandal and its very well done.

Also "The Overnighters" - about a Lutheran pastor trying to help the overwhelmed North Dakota homeless population.

Second The Overnighters - stay until the end for sure.

My newest favorite is Glitter Dust, about art and culture in Dubai. It's quirky and humanized the middle east more for me. Saw it on Indieflix, which is like netflix for indie movies. Highly recommend to see stuff you wouldn't otherwise get to watch.

The Imposter and The Overnighters.

Both will blow your mind in different ways.

If you haven't seen Dear Zachary, spare yourself - it will fuck you up.

Fahrenheit 9/11

It's not necessarily a documentary but the entire Vice series is incredibly well done and insightful. They just released a new one about the problem with the US prison system that's just so fantastic and quite moving.

+1 Vice frequently brings me to tears. The prison one was very sad but well done. I also found the North Korea episode fascinating.

A Place at the Table. About Americans who go hungry in the land of plenty.

Going to second "After Porn Ends" it was sad, fascinating and eye opening.

There is some nudity and a few brief "scenes", so be warned, but its mostly one on one interviews.

Randy West was the saddest. He seemed to have wanted relationships with some of his costars, he even spoke wistfully about missing out on marriage and children. It seemed like he sat around watching old movies he was in, sort of daydreaming about what the relationship could have been.

Blackfish-- so powerful.

There's Something Wrong with Aunt Diane got me worse than Dear Zachary and Dear Zachary destroyed me. I didn't know anything about Dear Zachary going in, but I could see the ending coming and was bracing for it. But Aunt Diane just got me right in the heart and made me angry.

There's something wrong with aunt Diane stayed with me.

Queen of Versailles.

Last days in Vietnam broke my heart and reminds me so much of what's going on in Syria right now.

I had forgotten about Aunt Diane. It haunted me for months. The way the family just INSISTED it was a medical issue wen it was clearly either drunk driving or suicide. Messed up.

I now want and viciously do not want to watch Just, Melvin, Just Evil

Is this about those dudes who replace actual human contact with their sex dolls, like that Davecat guy?

Sad is right.

Ah Davecat, I think about him from time to time, but he seems happy so I guess that is all that matters.

*whispers* that documentary was freaking strange though and gave me necrophilia heebie jeebies.

I saw it. It is one of those things that is so hard to explain. It was made by Melvin's messed up and narcissistic nephew, so it has this really raw and slightly strange vibe. While the entire documentary is riveting the last 15 minutes is unbelievable. Its on youtube.
