You don't know how custody works. This is clear. |
No common law marraige in the District. However OP needs a lawyer ASAP. Anyone can be evicted. It is just a matter of time and how. |
Probably someone that doesn't have a career plan, so she figured getting knocked up often enough will put her set for life. |
OMG - you hideous women! |
It may not apply to Op if dad does not want to be involved but this attitude where dad cannot have visitation or be alone with the child over random excuses like breastfeeding, when one can pump, is why many of the dads give up and go away. It is very clear moms only want them as a child support check and not as an equal parent. By three, a child with limited visits with a child has not been able to bond to their parent, then the next set of excuses come such as the child is scared of overnights, not bonded to the father, etc. To the no visit poster...and you wonder why these women are single and struggling. Or, better yet, the dads get tired of their nonsense and move on. |
Some of the most vicious posters on the divorce and custody threads are definitely male. This site and these threads have exposed me to some of the ugliest, nastiest misogyny I've ever come across. |
You are essentially a tenant and unless you can prove that you were not in a roommate agreement, you have little right to that house. Sorry. If you weren't married and you aren't on the mortgage, he's got the upper hand.
I hope this is just a phase and you can get some counseling. Good luck. |
Not to mention, common law marriage, like formal marriage, requires consent of both parties. They actually have to intend to be married and act married. |
Keep breastfeeding. This will at least buy you up to a year of full custody over your child since most pediatricians recommend breastfeeding for up to one year. He cannot get 50/50 custody while you are nursing your 2 month old.

Right, cause we all know marriage is a guarantee that you will never split up or have custody issues ![]() |
