Good for you to seek out help any way you can for your child.
I’m not sure which types of cases they can get involved in, but I’ve heard of contacting the DC Office of the Ombudsman for Public Education and Advocates for Justice and Education (AJE). |

Contact the Education Ombudsman. If it's a charter, also contact the Charter Board. If it is a DCPS school, also contact the office of integrity. Ombudsman: (202) 741-0886 Charter Board: (202) 963-0968 Office of Integrity: (202) 939-4913 |
At this point I'd go to the press:

Going to the press is always faster and more effective, not to mention cheaper. |
School admin here - 30 days is too soon for any suit to be taken seriously or for any school to be expected to act. If you have gone to many good schools and nothing was done there, I would immediately ask why? If the child has not progressed in reading for 3 years, what else might be going on? What is the history? Is there a 504 plan in place? Why is the child moving schools so regularly. What other issues may be at play? If you have documentation for any of this, it would help to have that all in order and then go seek a meeting with the Principal, the teacher and the head of SPED, and the school SW. A lawsuit at this stage will not be in the best interest of the child as the state of things clearly was influenced by forces outside of his or her current school setting and that will be a large factor in any individualized plan put forward to help the student. |
I'm curious if some of are at the same schools. Our Honors Biology and Spanish 2 teachers were awaiting visas for half of the school year, but they're both really good. |
