Not really. No degree required when you are in sales. I'm in inside sales and the only reason I don't step outside is that I don't want the pressure. I'm fine making in the mid 100s, don't need the extra hassle required if I want to break into the 3's. I can even go 1099 if I want, but I prefer the consistency of being a w2. |
Not research in the traditional sense, but sometimes I need to do research to do my job. I supply senior level officers with cultural and behavioral information to help them effectively interact with their international counterparts and to market products effectively overseas. |
| I haven't read the whole thread but I think 6 figures is way too vague. Making it to 100k is much different than 500k. Just saying. |
You must be so proud. |
| don't get a phd in the humanities. just saying. |

I have a BSN and MSN and have been a nurse for 20 years. Nurses around here start as new graduates at around 55-60K with shift differential, you easily earn 70-75K your first year. Salaries go up with experience. A RN with a bachelor's degree in nursing and 5 years of experience earns about 100K with shift differential figured in. Almost everyone works 3 twelve hour shifts so you get 4 days a week off. I've had an awesome career. I'm in administration now, have been for several years. My salary before bonus is about 200K - not big law money but I feel I'm not doing too badly! wow...I should have gone into nursing. Don't have the stomach for it! |
Curious..do you work for a hospital? |
Sorry, but the 'just saying' poster annoys me |
I have no idea where PP is getting these figures for nursing salaries. They're completely inflated for this area. Maybe she's posting from CA where salaries are higher? No way, no how that a hospital nurse working 36 hours in this area (shift differential or not) makes 6 figures. If so, please name the hospital. Seriously, I want a name. And 200K+bonus for nursing administration? Again, give us a name of an institution. signed, RN MSN for 15 years in this area as an RN, NP, who also spent time in nursing education, administration and recruitment. I'm all for championing nursing but not by making things up. |

MLS. That stands for a Masters in Library Science. Yes, I make six figures but I've been at this for many years.
I love my job. Some posters are correct though. $100,000 doesn't go THAT far in this area. It's nice but it isn't what it used to be. |

Jobs and Degress for a Six Figure Salary...
DBA - No degree, just certifications. |
If you don't mind answering, which area in library science are you in? Are you in administration? My husband is getting his MLS degree right now and most of the salaries that we see are pretty low. He is a tech geek and is making around $85,000---his work will give him a bonuse once he finishes the degree (which we are thrilled with)...whenever we look elsewhere in the country for librarian jobs, the salaries seem very low, even in high-cost areas to live. |
Well, as with all things, it depends. I got a Ph.D. in the humanities 10 years ago, and my salary is about $120K. I'm not in academia any more, though. |
