is it pretentious or cheesy to wear shoes or a purse with a large designer logo showing?

Yike, those bags are really ugly! I like simple lines in my clothing and accessories so these would not do it for me.

You have to be kidding. Nobody uses Coach bags anymore. They are 5-10 years ago. Seriously. I'm not trying to be b*tchy but, even in DC, people who know anything about fashion know better than to carry Coach.

Excellent! Does this mean they'll be at the Goodwill now? Because the Goodwill in Arlington is my favorite department store (lots of designer clothing!) and I'll finally be able to afford one! Please, everyone, cast off your old Coach bags!

I took mine to the one in Bethesda a few Saturdays ago, maybe they're still there? (no, this is not a joke) They were a black hamptons tote and a brown logo shoulder bag, very cute!

Okay, try a Kooba then. Or Marc Jacobs. Update yourselves a little, ladies!

I have gotten many compliments on my pseudo-Coach bag from Target. I think it is such a waste of money to spend a lot on purses. They wear out, and anyone who's really into them has skewed values, IMO. Sorry if I've insulted anyone out there!

I've actually had the opposite experience. I used to go through cheap bags pretty quickly because they wore out but the first time I invested in a designer handbag it proved to be a good investment as it has lasted and lasted (and of course is now out of style, but that's another story). I actually ended up spending less this way.

I love bags... of all kinds. I like $300 bags and $20 bags. I've tried to limit myself to only buying nice ones, but then I find a cute inexpensive one and buy that too. It's just what you like. I'm not into shoes, so Manohlos or Jimmy Choos do nothing for me, but if I got a random lottery check, I'd buy a Marc Jacobs bag (or five) without thinking twice.

And the Coach-is-so-passe argument (and really, this whole thread in general)... just carry what you like and embrace your own style and nothing else matters.

PP, I totally agree. Bags are my thing. I carry Lauren Merkins and a carry a $16 tote from Forever 21.

But to answer the original question on this thread, I think logos are case by case. I usually don't like them but if the shoes you're talking about are Torys, they are so ridiculously comfortable that they could say Snot or my Mother-in-Law's name on them and I'd still wear them.

Who would want to update themselves with such tacky and garish things?

This is 17:44, I was sincere and trying to be helpful. I read this very quickly, posted, and did not realize I would be mocked for trying to pass on useful information. I apparently missed the animosity in this thread on first glance, my bad.
