Who wears just a simple, plain wedding ring?

I wear my engagement ring on weekends, when I remember, but like an early PP mentioned, jewelry bigger and... scratchier, I guess, than my plain gold wedding band could damage the materials I work with.

I wear a simple silver band, the same 5 buck band my husband (then-boyfriend) bought me as a promise ring right after high school.

We could afford a more expensive one, but I don't like to spend money on something that's so easily lost. I just found my ring after the cat hoarded it away for the past week. If it cost thousands of dollars, I wouldn't have just said "eh" and waited for it to turn up again.

"Carolyn Bessette Kennedy did. I loved the spread of her in Harper's. Navy turtleneck, cords, little makeup and that simple, small gold band on her ring finger. This was soon after she married JFK JR and was worth millions."

And a cokehead. Good example!

Uh, the PP didn't say anything about Carolyn's character or personality, she just said that she was a millionaire and she liked her fashion style.

And DCUM turns nasty again. Just couldn't let a thread stay nice, could you? What a shame...

I just wear a band because the diamond always scratches my kids.

I have a simple plain gold band. DH spent $86 on it.

My husband spent ten thousand dollars on my engagement ring. I wear it every single day. I'm still proud of it, and I've had it almost 20 years.

MY DH spent a ridiculous sum for my engagement ring ...I would never have spent that much, but he did and it is absolutely gorgeous. I'm certainly not going to stick it away in a box after he spent so much time selecting it. It represents so much to me.

I wear a wooden ring. I have ethical objections to precious metals and stones, and the wooden ring seemed like the most attractive alternative.

Why are you proud of a piece of jewelry?

Because of the relationship it represents. And because DH sacrificed a lot to save up that kind of money and have it paid off when he bought it.

Not that poster, but do you have no heart? "That" piece of jewelry is what her DH selected for her to represent their union 20 years ago. It is very sweet. Why shouldn't she be proud of it, whether $50 or $50k?

I don't wear my engagement ring very often but I do wear my wedding band every day which is just sterling silver. We didn't have the money at the time of our wedding for anything more than that, and now seven years later we still haven't gotten around to replacing it. Not a priority.

My husband and I decided to get married after only knowing each other one month. Because we didn't really have much money at the time, we picked out two plain 14k gold bands. They had a set of platinum bands that we could have "stretched" to buy, but we decided that we would get the plain gold to remind us of where we started.

That was 15 wonderful years ago. Every time I look down at the plain gold band (no engagement ring), I smile.
