Losing two pounds a week - is it realistic?

Anonymous
Let me ask you a question- are you OK with losing a huge amount of your hair and possibly having bald spots?

If not, don't do it.

1lb per week max

I'm on ozempic & joined Alloy (gym that emphasizes muscle build over cardio). I've lost 45lbs in 1 year and less than 1% of that was muscle. You have to do it right. Also it took that long because I had to fail other treatments to get it approved.

People who weigh 350+ tend to lose at this rate easily. If you only need to lose 40 lbs, it’s a different matter. You probably won’t lose that much each week.

Just curious why would the injectables be healthier? They literally kill the desire to eat?
Isn't it the same, you end up eating so little that you can't even believe you're still alive?
No experience with either, just curious.

What? This isn't the case for me or anyone else I know on a GLP-1.

+1. It’s the opposite. NP and I’m working with a nutritionist and eating healthier than I’ve ever eaten in my life. I eat real food and stop eating when I’m not hungry. It stopped my cravings for junk and nonstop snacking, that’s it. I just ate yogurt with granola with no guilt because I wanted some. I no longer think that much about food. If I want it, I eat it. I’ve been losing an average of 10 pounds each month on Zepbound.

In my 20s and early thrities I would eat 1200-1400 calroies and do 30 minutes of jogging or stairmaster 5+ days a week. I would average -2 pounds despite only needing to lose 15 pounds. But it wouldn't last long and led to binging till I got back to or past my set point (112-114). When I got older I would go more slowely - 1600-1800 calories including more fat and proten, jogging 20-30 minutes 3 days a week and weights 2 days a week. I'd lose about -1 pound a week. But it wouldn't last long and led to binging till I got back to my set point (112-114) - note I didn't overshoot my set point often with this approach.

What is your set point, the weight you were most of your adult life, esp. pre kids, the weight you revert to if you are busy and not doing so much overeating/dieting/exercising? Is it possible to love yourself at that set point and focus on making your body stronger etc at that set point?

It wasn't for me. Now in my 50s I loose .5-.8 pounds a week with 1600 calories (including even MORE proteen) and jogging 20-30 minutes 3 days a week and weights 2 days a week. But even though I can sustain this for months, it doesn't last forever and leads to binging till I blow past my set point (now 114-118).

So yea, dieting doesn't work. And I've wasted my life trying to make it work. There's a reason this forun is all injectables now.
