I had no idea the kids had school next week. I just assumed that Friday was the last day. Yes, it's my fault.
Colon cancer runs in my family and my 21yr old nephew recently passed away from it. I thought I was being so responsible scheduling their colonoscopys for next Monday--guess not. So no, my kids won't be in school on Monday. They will probably go on Tuesday though. Kids are having a fun time arguing which is worse--going to school or getting a colonscopy. |
I really love this - great perspective I hadn't thought of. (Though, I'm a BCC parent whose kid is going to school next week.) |

WJ parent. Mine are going but will probably leave early Tuesday for travel
I don’t like to do that for my freshman bc one of her toughest classes is in the afternoon but it what it is. |
| DCPS made the right call for once in not having school next week. Don't know what MCPS was thinking. |
I don't blame you but school is far worse than a colonscopy! |
No one is faulting families. They can make their own choices. Similarly don't fault teachers who use the time they are given to actually teach and get things done. Some of the same people complaining about test, quizzes, and work next week, would also be complaining if teachers added more into the schedule earlier. It's a school day. If you choose to be elsewhere, than doesn't dictate that the class has to stop. |
I love this too. Makes perfect sense. |
Excuses, excuses. No wonder Gen Z and Alpha are so delicate. Pathetic. |
Why wouldn’t they? They are school days. |
People have been in school pretty much non-stop (save for the 5-day weekend Thanksgiving break) why wait another 4 days when most of the country got out today? It's not their fault that Maryland requires 180 days to take place even if a bunch of days are claimed by holidays and snow days. Yes those who love school will go and unfortunately the teachers are obligated to be there but don't take it out on the students who want the same break as their counterparts to the south and west. The Northeastern states mostly have this crazy schedule too as a by product to the school day requirements. But in some other states as specific amount of hours counts as credit to 180 days even if there are slightly fewer calendar days. So if a day is typically 5.5 hours 990 hours=180 days, if 6 hours 1080 hours=180 days. |
| Times have changed, we used to love going in on the low/no work days and getting to socialize all day. I’m sad teens are less social now (as is everyone)! |

Your threshold for “shocked and appalled” is laughably low. |
You are absolutely ridiculous. Just FYI. |

I bet tons of kids are traveling and teachers won’t cover new material. Lots of teachers take a poll on who is traveling vs who will actually come to school.
We were on a flight today with lots of kids/tweens/teens. |
